I had a problem upgrading though. Using Vista Home Premium and it wouldn't upgrade to Windows 7 Pro, had to do the custom install. It was x64 to x64 so change there.

Your versions were different Home Premium/Professional, I don't think that works either.[QUOTE="Sparticus247"][QUOTE="JigglyWiggly_"] x86 > x64, x64>x86 is not possible.Captain__Tripps

I just wanted to get that word out in case others made that mistake as well. I initially thought that there was only Home Basic, Pro, and Ultimate(as some websites only advertise those). So i thought hey Home Premium Vista may be like 7 Pro. I wish MS would stop releasing so many darn versions lol, it's confusing.
At the moment ive got vista but getting the full reatil version of windows 7 pro. Im just going to format my vista and put a clean install of win7 on as i dont need anything from my PC. That be ok to do want it?. Put the win7 cd in the drive and boot from cd be for windows loads and go frew the format and clean install etc and then use win7 instead of vista i have now.?

Because I have that right now and I just bought the student discounted W7 Professional for $30?
Yes. You're explicitly stating that you don't need anything from your PC, so this method sounds perfectly fine. Backing up data is very easy though, anyway - the only reason I can see for getting the "upgrade" variant of Win7 is simply to save a little bit of money. Don't forget the OEM-restrictions when using the upgrade method. Retail will allow you to change your motherboard. At the moment ive got vista but getting the full reatil version of windows 7 pro. [QUOTE="Ownsin"][QUOTE="JigglyWiggly_"] x86 > x64, x64>x86 is not possible.rock_solidAh crap so you mean if im 32 bit, i cant upgrade to 64bit :S? that is correct. unfortunately you'll need to do a clean install of 64 bit vista or win7. i recently went from vista 32 bit to 64 bit and had to reinstall all my programs. took me days. :) i recommend taking screenshots of your settings n stuff. makes it easier to get things back to how you had it. It's isn't really that big a loss when you consider it's always best to do a fresh install of an OS over simply installing over it.
Thanks i didnt no that you could change your motherboard once you have installed it and used the cd key i thought it was once installed thats it. Any way my windows7 still says its in packing but its been in packing since Friday. hope they send it soon be for the post Strike.
