Yeah, what you're saying really needs to be clarified. If you reformatted and reinstalled, then any viruses will be gone. If you simply reinstalled (without formatting( ie: all old data is stil there)) then the viruses will still be present.

Just FYI, my personal virus busting regiment is Spybot Search & Destroy (free), AVG Anti-Virus (free edition), Lavasoft's Ad-Aware (free edition),  Spy Ware Doctor ($$$, but definitely worth it, and CCleaner. Thes progs should clean your entire system. Spy Ware Doctor is a great investment, too. It will find and remove viruses that many other spyware progs imsply will not find. Oh, and a good firewall is Comodo Personal Firewall. It's free, low on sys resources and very powerful.

Best of luck to you.

If you want to start anew, clear of all viruses, then you need to reinstall and reformat. Read my previous post for recommended spyware/virus protection/clean programs. Others, I'm sure, will also help and tell you what they themselves prefer.

To get the best of the best, get Kaspersky (for virus), Webroot Spy Sweeper (for spyware), and ZoneAlarm Pro (for firewall).

There is one rather rare and very nasty virus payload that can corrupt your boot sector of your drive... if this happens, the corruption problem will resurface after a full reformat and reinstall.  if this is the case, you must hack in some dos code, if a reformat and reinstall does not fix it, give me a PM and I will point you to some other places.
