for asus and gigabyte there both make pretty good boards and for the 8800gtx i wouldn't recommend he should buy one at a electronic store because there way overpriced just order one online and for prices a good board will cost you $100-$150 USD and for that graphics card its like $700USD at electronic stores which is a little expensive but probaly a better deal then where you live

EVGA768 GeForce 8800GTX Card is what I've got. It's a monster. It will handle anything you throw at it... now the bad news. It's feckin' hooge, can run a bit hot, and is around $600. If you're serious about your graphics, this is the card for you though. I've TRIED to kill it... it feels no pain regardless of how much I max the game settings.

You can't order from most of the online PC hardware sellers without an US debit/credit card, just to let you know. If he can get a hold of one from a friend here, great, otherwise he'd have to hit the store.

I ment his friend buying it online in the States, cause as we all know, retail PC hardware prices are expensive.

Hardware Prices stay about the same across the USA, good deals however can be found.

id go with an EVGA 8800 768mb and id try to get it from a local computer store. For a better deal, then take it home and install it.

if you cant find it where you are, its probably not worth getting. Better off waiting for holiday season anyways, when a new line of DX10 cards will most likely come out.

I think you have three options:

1. if your friend is visiting a relative or friend, then I suggest having him order it online from a place such as newegg. You will save close to 100 dollars (maybe more) as opposed to getting it at a store, and it usually gets delivered within 4 days.

2. if your friend is just touring around, then I would think your only option would be to have him pick it up at a store. I dont know about other states, but in California we have a branch called Fry's Electronics. They offer prices that are competative to newegg, and they always have sales even on newer things. Avoid stores such as bestbuy, however, since their markup is insane...still, it would problably be cheaper there than in your home country.

3. If your friend is travelling around, you could order the card online and then ship it to whatever hotel he is staying at. This requires a bit of planning, but if he is planning on visiting San Francisco and staying for like a week, for example, and knows the address of the hotel, you could order it online and ship it to the hotel. Be sure to call ahead and make sure you know the hotels policy about this. I wouldnt recommend this as an option, however, since there is a lot of room for screwups between the onlone retailer, the hotel, and the timing of your friend's arrival at the hotel of choice.

Order it online and have it shipped to his Uncle's place. You could problably do this yourself without giving your friend any money, all you need is his address.

Also, 500 dollars wont be enough for an 8800GTX 768MB version in a retail store. Might have to settle for an 8800GTS 640MB, which in truth is more than enough.

Good luck with your purchase!

eVGA and BFG are really good brands. I have used Gainward before but BFG and eVGA are my favorites.
