Hi all,

There has been a problem in my pc, whenever i enter a usb and there is activity on the usb for ex. a wireless adapter and im downloading from the internet, or a flash drive, and im copying something on it, my pc turns off as if there is an electricity failure, interestingly, i have turned off the usb 2.0 support from the BIOS and this problem has stopped occuring, but of course the usb is much slower now,

any ideas would be really helpful,

Probably a PSU problem. Computers don't like to run if they're not getting enough power from their PSU. That's the only thing I can think of.

Could be a power issue. USB2 allows USE deviceses to draw more power than USB1.

Other than that, check your PC maker (or MOBO maker) for chipset updates.

Thanks for your responses, yes my pc shuts down completely as if there an electricity cut off, I think this might be a PSU problem as you said, but how much power does a usb port take anyway? it cant be that much that it causes a turn off

I had EXACTLY this problem when I used to plug in my ipod shuffle. Eventually one of the shutdowns caused the system files to become corrupted (no, I have no idea how this is possible) and the computer would no longer boot. A reformat fixed everything, oddly enough. Try this before you start replacing parts.
