Hey ho

Im thinking of replacing my trusty old AMD 4400+ with the Intel Core 2 Duo E6850. Been a AMD fanboy for to long now :)

Anyone here got any experience with this one? People are saying that you get alot of bang for your buck.

Im gonna use a 8800GTX and 2 gigs of RAM with it. So of course im hoping to max out some of the upcoming heavytitles

It might do you good to wait a bit and see how the Phenoms are priced and what performance is there.

If your gonna do some overclocking I'd go with the e6600 or the e6750...Both have very good heat dissapation and the e6850 gets really hot when overclocked.

Go for the Q6600, and an overclocking friendly motherboard and just OC the Q6600 to 3.00GHz.

Seeing as Barcelona has trouble beating Clovertown, I wouldn't hold your breath. AMD's situation is going to get worse when Penryn quads (Harpertown/Yorkfield) gets here.

Maybe you should just get an e6550 and overclock it to an e6850! That's what I plan on doing. Save some money..

Get the 6600 best cpu I have ever owed cost is cheap oc's to 3.2GHz with retail heatsink does everything fast and should last a while. When you want more speed just slap a cheap peltier + water cooling hits 3.8GHz with reaper ocz memory for insane video encoding speed while also playing games.

I was a amd man but this cpu just crushes anything you can throw at it and laughs.

why get a gtx, unless you play at 1920x1200 or 1680x1050 I wouldn't really think its necessary. oh and the E6850 is definetely a good processor.

Is faster than previous games. Majority of new games are multithreaded and the Q6600 will put a good beating on the E6850. Get a Q6600 without a doubt. The only reason not to get one is if you don't want to put out 275 for one. Get it from clubit.com where they guarantee a G0.

The 6600 is a beast you can play games while demanding apps run in the background and when new games come I will finally be able to use all 4 cores on games.

You can OC the 6850 to 3.8 with air and 4.2 with water and if you dont over clock its stock at 3.0 anyway

I'd go with the cheaper e6750; that's what I did and I don't regret it. :) Both CPUs are very overclockable though. And I'd rather spend that extra $100 on a better video card. Real-World wise, my E6750 is plenty fast enough for anything I throw at it, so I'd rather not spend the extra money on the e6850.
