I don't quite understand the hatred towards the use of the gamepad for the PC. It seems rather illogical when PC gamers praise the PC for being so extensible, customisable and flexible. However, the mere mention of a controller being used for GameX would send folks into a frantic uproar. Wouldn't it make more sense for PC gaming in all its glorious superiority to be more accessible to that of the "grossly" inferior console counterparts? Wouldn't it also increase the PC gaming population with this level of accessibility? So then why do people continue to shone away potential PC gamers with absurd comments like "If you want to game with a controller buy a console." It should be obvious that anyone asking about controller support for a PC game is interested in gaming on a PC and not a console, otherwise the question would not have been asked.

I guess some just have the mindset that controller = port... or a bad port for that matter, which isn't necessarily true. When done properly with the right type of games, I love using the controller. It lets me just sit back and play. My only beef with it is that I still have to reach for the keyboard to take screenshots.

I see this frequently and frankly the negative attitude annoys me too. I use the 360 controller for some games, I prefer mouse and keyboard for shooters but understand that many people rather a controller because they are used to it. Hell if somebody wants to use a driving wheel for an RTS game then more power to them. Options should be encouraged.

I have one of those Logitech Chillstream controllers that I use for race games, even though it has been collecting dust for a while now.
I use my mouse and keyboard for everything else.

TC.. Do not let fanboys or forum lolness make you think that many Pc gamers do not enjoy playing countless games with there controllers. I have about 8-9 controllers ranging from SNES arcade sticks to ps3/360 controllers which i use almost daily for many games. A real pc gamer will always tell you that Pc gaming is about freedom. Even if a developer does not specifically set options for X, you can get Y to work. I know one thing.... Super meatboy + NES cnotroller = AWESOME.

That's not the kind of thing that smart people criticize you for. There's not much point in having arguments with people who aren't smart, unless that's just how you get your kicks. There's no logical explanation for ideas based on stupidity so sorry, I can't give you an answer.

I use a controller for quite a large amount of games, especially platformers. Super Meat Boy is s*** without one.

I use a Logitech cordless controller, XBox 360 controller, MOMO racing wheel setup and mouse/keyboard. Whatever works best for a particular game. PC is the best way to play games, but why limit yourself to a mouse/keyboard setup when PC is capable of handling so many different options? ;)

I use what seems to works the best for the game I play. When I play a fighting games, I prefer to use an Hori Stick. When it's about racing, I use a racing wheel. Most action/adventure games seems to work better with controller. Some sports games seems to works better with controller too. Shooter, Strategy and most RPG and other type of games I use my mouse and sticks. It's all about playing with what works best or give me the most fun. Would be like anyone on console using the controller instead of the instrument in Guitar Hero. It sure could works, but I doubt it would be as fun!

Alot of PC gamers use a controller most of the time or have one for action games and such. I started on consoles so I use a controller for most games.

I have no problems with people using controllers. They are much better than M&K in some games, but in the ones where M&K do better, they do MUCH better.

I agree, I think I am part of a growing number of people that are finding with today's tech you can have the best of both worlds. I have my gaming pc hooked up to my 62" hdtv and can lay on the couch with the surround sound all around me, comfortably using a controller. Why not have all the superior abilities of the pc while having the comfort of a console? I agree k/m is technically superior, but so what if somebody prefers a gamepad for what ever reason.

What irks me is the elitist attitude of some pc gamers that have a fit when ever someone mentions using a controller, don't worry about it, it's not your concern. What I can't figure out is why games like Bioshock 2 or Dragon Age 2, which were obviously designed for gamepads don't actually support them in the pc versions. I say let people use what they want, that's what makes gaming on the pc so great, there is a choice.

Controller for PC = fine, controller for FPS games = fail.

For me , I think adventure, action, and platformer games work better with the controller, the movement is just easier and the buttons are easier to remember. Now as for any kind of shooter, anything other than KB/M is a huge disadvantage and yeah, you will get ripped on for it, there isn't even an argument.

For Bioshock 2 they went out of their way to redesign the ui to be better suited for the mouse and keyboard its not an exact port of the consoles ui adding in gamepad support to it would still be possible as i successfully mapped most of the controls for the game to the 360 controller using xpadder but probably to much work for them as it wouldn't be an exact copy and paste of the console controls. People who like to use gamepads on pc for fps are in the minority 2k decided to please the majority of people with better m/b controls at the expense of gamepad support the first game had.

I really dislike controller on pc, with most games that uses controller, you feel limited in your actions, the camera is a pain, and you don't have the freedom to look around. Also with games having more and more features, going around in the menus is taking forever, worst, how many games did I stop playing (even on XBox) cause I had to manage a full inventory with a controller. Controllers are only better for car racing games (if you don't own a wheel).

The only times I use controllers are for racing or flying games. I don't look down on anybody who uses a controller for anything. I just dont see how you can get any better precision than using a keyboard and mouse.

I use an XBOx 360 gamepad for racing games and platforming and fighting games.

Sometimes I even like shooters using the gamepad on account of the force feedback

Which shooter on the PC actually have support for gamepads? I tried (for the fun of it after I got my Logitech F710) but couldn't get it working for shooters on PC, games like L4D2, COD4, BF:BC2.

Every valve game has support so its odd it didn't work. CoD4 and BC2 for PC do not. Go buy a wired 360 controller or PS3 controller for the best compatibility.

Crysis works very well with a 360 controller. All you have to do is plug it in (even while already playing) and it works. The game actually accepts input from the keyboard and mouse and a 360 controller at the same time. I personally don't use controllers for FPS games, but I can see how if you are playing on a television across the room it would be much easier to just pick up a controller and play instead of trying to get a mouse and keyboard set up on a table or something. (The Valve games do work really well with a controller, but I still prefer m&k) I use a controller to play pretty much any game that isn't FPS, strategy, or a point and click adventure game. Sim Racing games I use a logitech G27 race wheel, for all other racing games I use a 360 controller. BTW I own 4 different logitech controllers and have an adapter to use PS controllers, but the 360 controller is my favorite for PC gaming.

I'd rather use a controller for almost everything. It's just not that comfortable using anything but the WASD on keyboard. Having your hand in that position and then reaching around for the # buttons or other keys feels unnatural

I use the PS3 controller because I think DS3 to be a lot better than the 360 pad, plus it works with my bluetooth receiver! Motioninjoy is one of the best programs ever :D I could even use Wiimotes if I wanted too but I've yet to bother to set that up. It all depends on what I feel like using that day, but it'll mostly be KB/M just because its superior for almost everything when you got the controls right. (DMC4 literally forces you to use a controller, very sad.)

Any will do really. I'm using a ****** BT 2.1 adapter I picked up for about 15 bucks. If you need one, this is only 10 bucks and works the same.

My bad, I tried L4D2 again, switched my controller mode to XInput instead of DirectInput, and it is working fine now.

Having done that, I find that playing a FPS with a controller isn't really ideal. Keyboard and mouse is much more precise.

Yeah, perhaps some people don't want to feel like they're playing on an Xbox while they're on the PC.

To me, that's silly, because some games are more enjoyable when you're laid back and have a controller in hand (right now I'm playing Overlord with my Xbox 360 wired controller and having a blast). I'm not against consoles, in fact there are several console games that I really want to play, and I don't see how using a controller hurts the experience of playing a PC game, that unless it's a game that requires more precision while playing, like a shooter or an RTS.

Sorry to inform but i am not making stuff up or exaggerating. Many times i need to find out whether GameX support the controller and a simple search on google you present you with onslaught of controller hating threads. So no, i am not throwing around or over generalizing.

I'm perfectly fine with using controllers on the PC if it makes the game much easier to play. Batman: Arkham Asylum is playable with just a mouse and keyboard but feels more fluid with a controller, and Prince of Persia is pretty damn hard to do without a controller at all.

IMO keyboard/mouse is must for "competitive/online" FPS/ RTS. Anything else better to have a better ergonomic controller, your hands in the future will thank you.

I have a lot of controllers I use as well. I used my Xbox 360 controller a lot, especially for ports like Just Cause 2, Borderlands, GTA IV Complete, and more. I also use it for games like Crysis SP (recommend against using it in MP), and Oblivion with PGP (really awesome and close to console controls with PGP). Games like Street Fighter IV, you really need a controller. I use controllers with emulators.

Most FPS games, you will get owned like BFBC2 if you use a controller. Some FPS games like Halo 2 are balanced for controller users, so it isn't an issue. I don't have any issues in Borderlands or L4D2 with my Xbox 360 controller either.

Use what ever control method works for you. I'd recommend controllers for fighting games or driving games (unless you have a stearing wheel) and if your into flight games get a good joystick.

I use a controller for a few genres (racers, action/adventure games, some TPS). But people who use controllers for FPS, RTS, or some RPGs are just shooting themselves in the foot.

Plenty of pc users use controllers here. I use mine for racing, sports, and platformers. I think you would be pretty stupid to use it for fps, but you're entitled to do so.
