The VAC system reliably detects cheats using their cheat signatures. Any third-party modification to a game designed to give one player an advantage over another is classified as a cheat or hack and will trigger a VAC ban. This includes modifications to a game's core executable files and dynamic link libraries.
maybe im just being paranoid... since you only get banned when joining a vac server..I just want to know that if I play a game like L4D with no cheats whatsoever..will this "vac" scan all my other games(like Mount & blade) and if it finds a .dll hack or something like that..will it ban me.. or does it only scan the game that you are trying to play online..
Yes but what if you make your own they can't possibly know everything. I ran CSS on three monitors, I didn't get vac banned lawl. (Using softth's config, which isn't meant for css specifically)If it gives you an unfair advantage over another player online, then yes vac will ban you

Hm...Did you ever see anyone get banned for using FO3 mods?

Thats true, they don't know everything, but if its popular or a huge, noticeable advantage someone is bound to report you or catch on. Having 3 monitors is not advantage that should be banned in my opinion because your not really cheating in the sense of better weapons or shooting through walls but on the other hand you can see more with more monitors.
If you are playing online(on a VAC protected server) with an altered/new dll file, there's a good chance that VAC will detect it and ban you.
