Does anyone know why this game runs so awful?

I get about 9 fps on the beach and similar fps in the city. Is there a fix or something for this? Or is it just poor optimization? In houses I get 50 + fps unless there are lots of npc's. I have patch 1.2 and the unofficial 3.3 patch installed.

My specs: Intel P. 2,4 Ghz, 1 gig ram, 6800 GT gfx-card. I think that should be enough to run a 2-3 years old game.. No? Maybe it's an issue with the drivers? I think I have the latest installed though.

Well first of all i'd remove the drivers you have and install the 84.21 drivers. The new 9X.XX series of drivers cause problems especially with the 6800 (had problems myself). Also try installing the latest patch for the game, the developer has gone under but third party patches are readily available.

Your PC is better than mine, and I run the game perfectly.

My specs: AMD Sempron 3100 @ 1.8 Ghz, 1 gig ram (256mb x2 + 512mb), and an 128mb XFX GeForce 6800.

That's why I'm very confused right now.

Try using ad-aware. Your PC might be so chockful of spyware that it's hitting your performance.

Maybe it's the unofficial patch.

Nah. The unofficial patch works wonders for the performance issues. It's an absolute necessity.

The only other thing I can suggest is to check your system specs (Start, Run, type; "dxdiag") to make sure you are not mistaken.

Additionally I run on Windows 2K. Windows XP should have better performance. If your OS is below 2K then that may be the cause your problem.

Like others have said the unofficial fan patches make the game run a lot smother, have you downloaded every patch? that should fix your problem but if not there's not much else I can think off.

Weird, it shouldn't be that demanding ..I know it's a long shot but try setting your page file to 1.5Gb or something. And if you have AGP card I also remember something about agp aperture(or graphic window size or something) settings higher than 128mb causing issues(from bios). And fast-write should prolly be disabled, but those 3 are REALLY long shots. And see that you have no AA or AF forced from driver settings.
