I have noticed when people make threads about RPG recomendations or top ten RPGs, this game usually comes up. I have to ask, what makes it so special? I took a brief look at it a while ago, but didn't see what all the fuss is about. Also, I am aware they have community patches, but do they also have texture/graphics overhauls for the game aswell?

thanks

It's an all-around interesting game with great voice acting and a good story. The combat is action-oriented but also skill-based, and you can choose how you'd like to play through the game. It's similar to Deus Ex in that regard, with a more open world to play around in. Plus it has a lot of conversation options and manipulation of said conversation through skills. If there are any graphical overhauls, I'm not aware of it.. the game actually doesn't look too bad... I'm not bothered by it.

yeah, graphics aren't too big of a deal since I'm playing Deus Ex without anything, however Deus Ex graphics are my limit.

Well to put it short its the kind of an underrated wrpg which completely stomps kotors, elderscrolls and mass effect to the ground.. But basicly what the guy above me said..

it's refreshing. not every day to you get to play as a bunch of different vampires in a modern day socal setting. there are different ways to play the game depending on the clan you are. the dialogue and characters are awesome and the game does a good job of pacing through the story. it just has an awesome atmosphere

Bloodline is considerably better in the graphics department then Deus Ex. It was made 4 years later and features photo realistic texturing. I do think the game styles are a good comparison. The mechanics aren't though. Bloodlines is much more of an RPG in that you can point a gun right at someone and often miss since its based on tabletop diceroll style hit detection. The writing in both is excellent though.

One other reason people like blodlines is because it offers some of the most memorable characters and levels of any game. Who can forget the haunted house level, or the twins, or the vampire hunter house, or the prosthetic maker? I can't remember a single character in oblivion or KOTOR (although I love both games) hardly but I remember almost all of Bloodlines.

I'm not a huge fan of hit or miss combat, is everything based on that, and does it really effect gameplay?

yes all combat is based on dice role mechanics. Its a true board game rpg adaptation. There are mods that change this mechanic to more of a point and shoot mechanic but I have never used any of them. Personally I always use mele weapons and blood skills when I can.

If that guy hadn't mentioned it I wouldn't've known.. it doesn't PLAY like it's a dice-roll mechanic. Maybe that's how I can best describe it.

I have heard about this game so many times and the more and more I heard about it the more I want to get it. I think I might have to buy it soon. Too bad the company that made it went out of business. I'll bet an updated version of it would be cool... like a sequel or something.

welll it trully does make you feel like a vampire but it has 3 big problems 1) too damn buggy 2 ) you get skill points if you complete a quest, so the best way to make your character strong is to complete as many quests as possible...BOOOOO 3) i created firearm specialazation character and after dozen of upgrades, weapons are way to weak, 5 shotgun shots to a cop's head from close range.... ohh and very innnacurate you have to stay still to aim, plus some have reddiculus recoil. so as you understand i started playing as a meele charater and still the enmies survived my blows... not that much vampire.

1. Not after the community patches

2. Lol, how else do you prefer to make your character strong .. by mindless grinding ?

3. Never found the game too difficult unless when I created a non combat character or the last levels which is the only major flaw of the game i.e.the last few levels of the game degenerate into constant action and all

DAKAN is a fool, don't bother even arguing with him. Bloodlines is a great RPG, end of discussion. It has not been buggy for years, lol. Completing quests is a much betetr way to get XP then many RPG's use.
