Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines problem

I assume some of you took advantage of D2D's sale of this game for $5 this last weekend, so I'm hoping one of you can help.

When I loaded this game up an error popped up saying:

[Engine Error]

- Available memory less than 15MB!!! -929792

I looked up this problem to see that this game has compatibility issues with 64 bit Windows with more than 2gb of ram. I use Windows 7 64 bit, and I have 4gb of ram.

So I looked up a fix, and found a hex editor to edit the engine.dll file, but when I save the edited engine file it gives me another error.

[Error]

- Error writing engine.dll

- Error 5: File access denied

This particular error shouldn't even occur because I am admin of my own computer, but I apparently don't have access to edit this file.

I have no idea how to fix this :( I assume I can just take out some ram sticks, and play it with 2gb of ram in my computer, but that's a lil inconvinient to have to do over and over till I beat the game. I'll do that if it's my ONLY option, but I don't believe this should be required.

Do you have the official patch 1.2 installed or the latest unofficial patches? Also you might try running the dll patcher as administrator if you have not tried that.Captain__Tripps

I believe I have official patch 1.2. I was reading a little troubleshooter, and it said if my file is not such and such kilobytes then it is not the official 1.2, but it is that same size, so I'm sure of it.

How do I run as an administrator though?

I take it that worked then lol After you get the game working you should also install the latest community patch if you haven't already done so.

Looks like your pirated version wasn't downloaded successfully. This problem is remedied by purchasing the game.

If you haven't installed the latest community patch, do it. Even if your problem is already fixed, it will fix a lot of bugs in the game.

As others have said above, download the latest unofficial patch. It keeps the core gameplay intact but fixes pretty much all the bugs, ect. Essential imo.
