Hey, I'm fairly new to overclocking and I have a pretty simple question: On a site like Newegg, under the specs for a proccesor, it has its voltage range. Is this a range you should always stay within when overclocking, or is it simply the voltages the processor may be set to when you receive it.

For example, the E6600 on Newegg has a voltage listing of "0.850V-1.3525V." Does that mean you should never exceed 1.3525V, or is that simply a possible stock setting?

So basically, are those settings stock settings/conservative guidelines, or should you really never exceed the max they have listed?

Thanks for the help!

you should be ok at 1.45 or 1.5,

Just check your temperatures, make sure it doesn't get too hot.

BTW going above the recommended voltages might shorten the life span of your cpu,

OK, thanks. That's what I figured.

Oh, also, is it possible to overload your processor with volts even if the temps are OK, or do the two sort of go hand in hand.

Like could the temps appear OK, but the volts are killing the processor, anyway?

Thanks again.

I think deppending on who you ask the answer could go either way.

Usually no. Heat is usually the direct result of high voltage.
