Hi I wanted to buy a new PC which will run Windows Vista very smoothly and also play games on it well enough. Can you please tell me if the following specs are good enough?

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz
1 GB RAM
500 GB Hard Drive
256MB Ati Graphics card
DVD RW

Has anyone tried vista on a spec like this, i want it to run very smoothly without lagging. Also should i wait for the core 2 quad to get cheaper or should i go for this.

Thanks

pls specify the video card, that can be anything from an entry level to a midrange for all we know.

That'll run it fine. You don't need a mega powerful system as people make out anyway.

Try this Vista readyness tool  to see how your current rig stacks up, then compare the new specs to judge the one you want to buy.

If I were you I would go for 2G's of ram and possibly a stronger vid card

Quad core wont make a difference to how Vista runs. Just get the C2D, they are all great chips and easily quick enough for Vista. If you want to game you will need a much better graphics card than that though.

Put 2GB of ram into the system and a better video card. Get a X1950 or 7900GT and you will be good to go if those are too rich for you then look at the X1650 and the 7600GT, or if you have lots of cash look at an 8800 to get DX10. You should also be aware that midrange and low-end DX10 parts are on there way so if you hold off a month you can probably get one of those. The CPU is fine dual core will be fine for quite some time, we have yet to see any games that require it.Â
