DVI is digital, and there is no signal loss. VGA is analog and can have signal loss. In general they are exactly the same with DVI being slightly sharper.

I was also wondering this myself...my monitor only came with a VGA cord, but has a DVI plug, so I've been using a DVI to VGA adapter for awhile now, but thinking about springing the 20 bucks or so for a DVI cable. Would it be worth it?

It's definately worth it. But these cables can be had for like $10 on newegg or ncix. Even cheaper at Monoprice.com, just don't buy it from big chain stores like bestbuy where they ripped you off 100%.

I use DVI but I can't really tell the difference from vga in terms of picture quality. Maybe if they were side by side.

Colors in cod4 seemed to be more vivid with my dvi cable than the vga, and had a better look to the game overall. On the other hand, it put too much detail into normal images outside of games. Color transitions, or fading, are more rough rather than smooth.

Size is also a matter with these cords. www.dvigear.com for an explanation. They sell cords, but pricey.

These seem to be the main points between both. Anyway, most of people use it because the picture is alittle bit sharper and because its just ''Digital''
