hey guys, so i bought a new video card which is supposed to be better than my current one but when i installed it and tried some games they barely worked (cyrostasis ran so slow i had to stop playing, and i tried doom 3 but it didnt work at all and said the video card couldnt handle the game settings)

my pc specs are

windows xp home edition, intel core 2 duo cpu E4500 (2.2 ghz), 2 gigs of ram, Nvidia geforce 7800 gtx video card (256 mb) , sound blaster X-FI audio sound card,200 gig hard drive.

the new video card i bought is an ATI RADEON HD 4670 (1 gig)

is that card actually better than the card i have? if yes then why does it seem to be worse. (one of my friends told me that the card is not compatible with windows xp cause its a 64 bit card but the card comes with 32 bit drivers and says that its designed for xp and vista)

The obvious question-Have you downloaded the latest drivers? And yes, that shoud crush your old game, with a new release like Cryostasis...Do you have the 6 pin connector in from PSU?..Is it secured tight in your PCIE slot?..If you have 2 slots, try the other one..

i have no idea what my power supply is. i know nothing about computers. my old video card has a 6 pin connector that connects to a black and yellow cord that connects to the power supply but the new card doesnt have that, it only connects through the gold connector on the side of the card

These guys are right, check your power supply. It may not be enough to run your graphics card.

A drivers problem probably. The 4670 should be miles ahead of the 7800gtx. And your friend is just wrong... Tell him he has no idea what he is talking about. If you have a 32bit OS, get the 32bit drivers. If you have a 64bit OS, get the 64 bit drivers. It's as simple as that.
