i need to kno if the ati radeon hd 4670 would be a good card for my comp, i wanted to get the hd4870, but due to lack of money i was wonderin if the 4670 would be a good decision still. i have the gateway 505gr, harddrive is 200gb, i have 1gb of ram(ddr sdram), and a pci express slot, a pentium4 3ghz processor. the video card i had before was the radeon x750 pro, which could run crysis on low. anyways would gettin the hd4670 be a good decision?

For that comp? It's probably the highest you can go... although that whole system needs a redo... a 4870 would have done you no good as that whole system is a bottlneck

The 4670 looks like a decent card. But you will probably need to upgrade your power supply. It needs at least a 450w power supply. What is your budget? You could probably make this work, it depends on your budget though.

Its a good graphic card but i fear a serious bottleneck from that Pentium 4. I'd say go for it if the system has the pci-e x16 slot but you should start considering changing your mobo/cpu/ram for a huge performance boost! :)

The HD4670 should run fine even on a 300w PSU.

Also, adding another gig of Ram would really help too. Another option to consider might be a 3650. I know that it isn't a high end card, but Lundy is right when he says that your system will bottleneck. The 3650 also requires a lot less power, which is good, and will be cheaper. But again, depends on budget.

If i'm not mistaken any of the radeon HD series graphic card is better than the x series. Hell, even the one in my laptop (hd2400 is better than my old x600)

Yea, I don't know a whole lot about ATI graphics cards but it looks like the 3650 would be a big jump in performance. I couldn't even find any info on your current card. But I looked around on YouTube and there were alot of videos of the card. Most were getting pretty good framerates. Check it out for yourself, just type HD3650 in the search bar.

Ok, so what you need to find out is what kind of Ram your motherboard supports. There a few different ways that I know of. First, if you know your computers model number and such, then this tool on this site will help you find the memory you need. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=10

Or, you could download this

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/what-kind-of-memory-does-my-computer-have-installed/

The first option is best. There should be a link on that site saying memory configutator.

Oops, didn't realize you posted your model number. So i ran the ram configutator, here are the results...

No, I don't think that will work. Because it is a 240-pin module, and not a 184-pin. Newegg has better prices than tigerdirect. Heres a link,

I could run crysis on medium textures but with physics and post processing and the such on low settings 1024x768 with my old pentium4 3.06Ghz and 1GB of RAM.

4670 is better than the x1950 but I would advice you to abandon Pentium4 and go quad core right now buy a whole new system if you can.

Radeon 4830 or 4850 would suit you if that is your plan to upgrade bit by bit.

If you have a PCIex16 slot they will work. You may need a new motherboard for a quad core. What is your motherboard?

It depends on the size of your monitor. If you only have a 19" monitor then there is probably no need for the 1GB version. Especially if the 1GB version is more expensive.

It looks like you would have to upgrade your motherboard in order to put a quad core in. Or a core 2 duo for that matter. Your motherboard only supports up to 800mgz frontside bus. You could upgrade to a cheaper duel-core, but they will tend to be clocked lower, like 2.2ghz. I don't know a whole lot about intel stuff. I use AMD. But let us know what you are planning to do. Are you just going to upgrade your video card and ram, or are you looking to build a whole new system?

Right you want a Quad core CPU. The cheapest ones are Q6600 or Q8200. Or if you want something a lot more powerful go for i7 depends on your budget?

Oh you want AMD and ATI . You know they are not as good you know?

One thing that I would reccommend. And that is to buy all your stuff all at once. And there are a few reasons why.

1. Prices are constantly going down. A processor that is $235 now, might be less than $200 a month from now. And it would really suck if you spend all that money on parts and then when you put it together, all the prices are lower. And you could have spend less.

2. This is the most important reason. If you buy say a motherboard now, and say you actually get the computer build say a month from now, then you have no way of testing if the motherboard actually works. The first motherboard I bought arrived DOA. I was able to return it, but if I had waited too long then I would have lost that money. And other things like ram and cpus might have less time to return them.

I would wait till you get your tax money back. Then you will have some reall money to work with. I will shop around and find some stuff for you, so that you can get an idea of the cost. I will post that back later. I have some errands to run. If you are interested in doing some research, then this forum might be helpful...

http://www.techsupportforum.com/

They have some good sticky posts about how to choose your cpu, power supply, etc.
