Hello world ! First of all let me give the system specifications of my PC : Windows XP Professional Intel Core 2 duo - 1.83 Ghz - 2 CPUs (2.0 Ghz for assumption) DirectX 9.0c Video card name : Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family Chip type : Intel(R) GMA 950 DAC type - internal Video memory : 128 mb Main video card driver : ialmrnt5.dll DirectDraw - enabled Direct 3D - enabled AGP Texture : not available When I play Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of war , the screen suddenly freezes and a message pops up saying - " driver ialmrnt5 suddenly stopped working". After clicking "ok" , the game closes thus revealing the distorted desktop. This problem happens with many games especially the ones which support pixel shaders and hardware transform and lighting. For example this problem did not happen with Age of Empires III which is of course the game with same system requirements as of Warhammer. In many forums , people were saying that probably the video card has to be changed or driver has to be upgraded. One guy got rid of his "same" problem by using an alternative to BVE that's open source and uses OpenGL. And better yet, it doesn't crash his computer , he says. How may I get rid of this problem ? Helps and assistance will be highly appreciated ! Thanks in advance !

Has this started happening recently?

Also, you technically don't have a video card.

I don't think it would be worth even playing the game on the GMA 950.

Try updating your Onboard video graphics driver and see if that works by going to the manufacturers website to download the latest drivers.

No, this problem persisted long time ago. Also why this peculiar thing did not happen in Age of Empires III ? It happened many times in many games especially ones which support hardware transform and lighting and pixel shading.

I ran Age of empires III in my PC and it ran slow but did not show this peculiar message. When I ran AOE III for first time it gave message - "your video card is not supported for this game. Are you sure you want to run the game ?" I clicked "yes" and it ran though slowly. At times of ship battles it hanged but still ran bit more slowly but never showed the pculiar message in between.

But when I ran warhammer in same PC the screen freezes and message pops up - " driver ialmrnt5.dll stopped responding suddenly" and then screen freezes !

I did the same thing for the dell laptop and it was internally damaged and could not be repaired. I would not like to take this risk as it can make the matter worse.

I don't think it's any problem you can solve without getting a new video card. Even if it would load, I don't think it would be playable.

To be more specific , it only runs in "its" safe mode with low graphics settings and "still" my PC freezes at times.

Postmortem123

Can OpenDVE or ViDock solve this problem ? Is this unavaibility of AGP texture acceleration which is allowing this to happen ?

Why same thing did not happen with Age of Empires III ?

Because they are different games.

And I don't know, I've never used them sorry.

Edit; ViDock probably could, but I've never seen it in action and have no idea how it works.

LET's see if someone else can reply my pending question :-

Question :

Can OpenDVE or ViDock solve this problem ? Is this unavaibility of AGP texture acceleration which is allowing this to happen ?

Why same thing did not happen with Age of Empires III ?

Edit : Ok , I'll try ViDock.

But Why same thing did not happen (freezing and popping dialog box saying that video card ialmrnt5 stopped responding) with Age of Empires III which is also of same requirements as that of Warhammer 40k Dawn of war?

because its a different game using a different graphics engine. System requirements mean squad . Some devs are generous with their minimum system requirements some devs arent

For example some devs when the say minimum Cpu 1ghz they mean the game will barely ran on that Cpu. Others mean the game will run with decent speed ( frames per seconds ) . Different devs have a different grasp on the minimum requirements

He meant "squat", slang for **** (the four-letter word for feces---from the posture often assumed in producing it), itself slang for "nothing". Only a game programmer could answer your question. I guess the one game calls a function that the other one never does. The requirements are a crude estimation of the hardware that will enable the game to be played at all. You can understand that the game companies would make their minimum requirements as lax as possible so that more people would buy their game, but not so lax that those people would not be able to play once they bought it.

i TRIED using THIS thing : http://arjuncool.hubpages.com/hub/playing-high-graphics-games-without-graphics-card

The matter turned from worse to worst as on running Warhammer using this software , the screen "blacks out !"

It may be as simple as your graphics chip being too old and simply too weak.
It cant handle the games you are trying to play and thats why its crashing.

Get a graphics card.

EDIT:
No wait, thats a laptop? Get a new one!

Will updating of the video card driver help ? Also can the softwares or tools like OpenDVE or ViDock solve this problem ?

Please go through this thread - http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=66356.0

And see if the steps there could help my case.

Thanks for the reply though.

No, you need new and better hardware.

The thread you linked is 4 years old and even in 2008 your graphics chip was really never meant for playing the games you mentioned.
