Trying to find a video card to purchase for under $100.00.

My little brothers computer is about 3 years old but it was a nice build at that time. His current card is fried and I won't be able to help him put the new card in. He's a gaming nut but is really playing things that are a few years old as the games reach his price point. Any suggestions?

Thank you guys for your help!

9800GT's can play any game out there on at least medium. Most of them are around the $100 range.

As far as the power supply I can't seem to figure that one out. Sadly i'm not there to look at it and my little brother has no idea. Here is a picture of the connector for the old card so that should give you guys some idea

That is an AGP card. The best AGP card you can get now is either the 3850 or the 4670 (both around $100). However I believe these new AGP cards require an 8-pin power connector (check and make sure you brother has a power supply with an 8-pin connector). The 3850 is better at least in my opinion.

not true and the 4670 doesnt come in agp the 4650 does.. and the 4670 will do crysis on high on lower resolutions (im talking like 1024 x 768 ) with solid frames.. the 4650 however cannot.

4670 crysis genchmark:

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/sapphire_hd_4670/7.htm 1024 x 768 avg fps on high with AA x2 is 35 fps

but they are still both good cards expect medium to high quality on lower resolutions for all of the newer games omiting the following titles: arma 2, operation flashpoint dragon rising.

Yes the 4670 does come in AGP. However the 3850 is the best AGP card. Here this one only uses one 6-pin PCI express connector http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681413114.

you can buy an adapter at your local computer store. The adapter will use 2x4 pin power connectors for the one 6 pin one.

I think the best you can get for $100 is the HD 4850. I have one and it maxes everything at 1440 x 900.

I play Crysis on high and very high 1680 x 1050 with the 9800 and it consumes very little power... Great choice for $100

Thanks for the help again! I think i'm going with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131141&cm_re=3850-_-14-131-141-_-Productas UltimateGamer95 recommended.

I can't seem to find a connector for using two 4 pin connectors into an 8 pin which i'd need for this card right? Risking the idea that i'll look even dumber can someone link me to that on newegg? I'm pretty lost.

the card only needs a 6 pin so you need 4pin to 6 pin adapter http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812267004&cm_re=4_pin_to_6_pin-_-12-267-004-_-Product
