I havent updated my computer in about 3 years and its time for a new video card for sure, Im interested in running wow a lot and probably CoD4. Ive been glancing around newegg for cards but im lost now a days when it comes to updating these things.

I want to stay under 200 bucks for this new graphics card, any suggestions?

I haven't checked the latest prices in the past couple of days, but this Radeon 3850 seems like a really good deal. Make sure you have a capable PSU, good case cooling, and enough room within your case before commiting to a purchase, though!

I'm not sure how well this card will run those games there but it does fine for me when it comes to C&C 3 and SC.

I have the nvidia 8600gt xxx 256mb and this card does great but some will probably suggest the 8600 that has 512mb. Not sure how much that one is though.

Also, could you post your system specs? While a new graphics card will certainly help, other components in your system may need upgrading as well.

I've also heard some good things about the 8800GS. Might want to look into it some, I've only seen benchmarks from one site.

The ati 3850 is the best card you can get for under $200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048+1305520549+106792462+1067933728&name=Radeon+HD+3850 and here is a reviewhttp://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/472/

XFX 8800GS XXX

I seen a MSI 8800GT 512MB for $205 earlier today, but ATM its out of stock, either wait for the 8800GT to come back in stock,or get that 8800GS XXX,i really can't find a reason to recommend a HD 3850/70 ATM.

It's more preference, if you want Nvidia, you can go with the 8800GS. If you want to go with ATI, go with a 3850 or 3870 if you can find it.

Just to add my 2 cents woth

My pc is a amd athlon dual core 3800+ 2.0

with 2 gigs of ram

x-fi extremgamer sound card

roughly 377+ gig hard drive

nvidia 8600gt xxx 256mb

I'm just wandering is there much I can work with in order to get this pc to run SC like on medium to high cause at the moment it is like some settings are off and like 2 on high and my rez is 1024x768.

O yea I have a 500 watt power supply.

How would I go about to find out what mobo I do have?

Also what could I do to improve this abit more with out having to get a bigger case.

the cpu isn't amazing but its not bad and 2 gigs is fine so you'd probaly just want a new video it depends on your budget on what you get next time just make a new thread its not hard

What about the new 9600? How does that compare to the 8800 GT and the 37XX series?

8800gt 3870. 3850 512 are better. And considering the pricing for the 9600GT doesn't look good, being arround $200, it would be better to get the others.

8800gt for 184 is a good price, but as someone said before, its outta stock. I havent looked into the GS but seems pretty good, sure beats my older 8600gts im sure.

This also looks like a nice offer if you don't mind MSI. Just make sure to mail in the rebate. You may want to wait for that other GT to get back in stock though and save $15. The good thing about this one is it has a better cooler. However, an 8800GT might be a bit overkill for your PC. You may also want to wait for the 9600GT, it may be worth getting.
