So i am a noob with PC hardware and i am woundering what video card i should get that can play all games out at the moment and games for next year so it will last *and the speed would be fast*?

Details; please list some *or top 5* of each video card for AGP PCI PCI-E *Mainly PCI-E and whatevers better AGP or PCI*, also my price range is £50-150 so id say $100-200.

Due to my motherboard not allowing PCI-E i am more happy to buy a new motherboard aswell but if an AGP/PCI video card will be good enough for this year and the entire next year then is there any point?

There are only two with two years' potential. Both are PCIe, both are Geforce 8800s, and last time I looked, you cannot buy either within the price range named.

in AGP i don't think you can get anything much better than a X1950XT, like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102093

EDIT: the x1950will last 2 years, but by 2009 it'll only run games on low/medium

£50-£150? Tricky-if you can stretch to about £180 then the 8800GTS is OK, otherwise go with the x1950

180 + new mobo because there are no 8800GTS on AGP

The OP has set an impossible goal. The X1950 will not run run everything fast for two years. The cards that can do that are PCIe only and cost more than he has budgeted for the purchase.

Game requirements have moved from the escalator up onto the express elevator. Two years from now, given any relation to changes over the past year, and there will be no AGP card able to go above the lower end of medium. The X1950 XT has been seen in an AGP version, making it the fastest AGP in existence. But it is Dx9, and a year and a half from now, a sizable part of the newest and best games will start to appear in Dx10 (not exclusively, at first, despite Microsoft's wishes).

If you will settle for "playable, but nothing special", why the X1950 XT has two years in it (not sure about the rest of a system from now -- memory requirements are almost certain to be at 2 GBs by then, for instance).

Yeah. His budget is too low for 8800 or 2900 whichareprobalygoingto run games well for 2 years. 1950 might do it for 1-1,5 years, but than it will need to be replaced if you want decently play new titles.

you definantly want PCI-e. The cards are cheaper for it and you can get many more cards. PCIe is the new standard, AGP is too old.

to use a PCIe card, you'd need a PCIe mobo, which you don't have, so, the best card you can get is a X1950(AGP version), and i don't think you can buy a good VGA and mobo for $300, as changing the mobo usually means a entire new PC

and also, as I said in my first post, the X1950 WILL last 2 years, but it won't be a great card by there, I was using a FX5500 until some days ago, and just now it's stopping to run most new games, i could run games like NFSC, AOE3 and others, but just on low and with low FPS(around 20-25 averange)

PCIe mobos cost about $50 plus a 8800 GTs that cost $270 at lowest you'll be paying about $320 so If you can woop out $20 more dollars out of your budget you should be fine. Just make sure all your parts (CPU,Ram,Hard Drive,) are compatible with the new board and I will asssure you you won't regret a single thing.
