So suppose you had to argue that video games could be art. If you could only use one game as an example, what would it be?
I know for a fact I would choose Bioshock.

Really? :o Sure. If games are art, any game is acceptable. Or were you specifically only asking for games with some kind of quirky or unique perspective of life? That's probably a better example of games as philosophy than games as art. At least that's the argument I'd make. :)[QUOTE="guynamedbilly"]Red Faction Guerillarealguitarhero5

But try this:
Red Faction Guerilla
Bioshock
Looking at ONE screenshot, which one is more qualified as art?
Dragon Age
seriously every time I play it I feel like I'm writing a story on a partly drawn canvas :D
Looking at ONE screenshot, which one is more qualified as art?realguitarhero5You could say the same thing by comparing the two images below. One is relatively normal like real life, the other is rediculous.

Bioshock is the closest but I wouldn't really regard any game as art. Art is meant to infect you with the same feelings that the person making it had. There are very few games that do that. Art and artistic are not the same thing.

Braid, easily. I've written 2 essays now on Braid, one on the overall importance of Braid, the other specifically about the final quote in the game ("To build a castle of approperiate size..."). Granted I'm a high schooler, so these aren't professional level essays, but Braid is easily the most artisic game ever made I would argue, with Bioshock coming in 2nd.

No it isn't.. Because some art with out artist explaination can be completely clueless on the meaning of the picture.. The entire abstarct art community would like to have a word with you.. An art piece can be interpreted in so many ways that there is no single or correct way..

You can interpret it anyway you want, but even abstract art has some emotions from the artist found in it, even if those emotions are disorientation and confusion.
Find me an artist or an artwork without feelings and I'll call him a fraud!
