Virtual memory

I know this isnt about games but, sometimes when i turn on my pc and it loads up and everything it says WARNING virtual memory minimum too low, some requests for applications might not be allowed or somthing like that. Can someone tell me what is virtual memory and how to i increase it. Another thing is after that message pos up my games lag a bit. i have 512 mb of ram.

virtual memory is essentially using the hard drive free space on top of your real hardware memory when programs need it. Hard Drive "memory" is much slower but most people with 512 or 1gb will be using it.

Right click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Settings (in Performance) > Advanced > CHange (Virtual memory)

Now there is not set amount you should have, it depends on ram and hdd space etc. I currently have over 2000mb and that's for both min and max, I have 1gb of ram.

Set your virtual memory to double your RAM.

what must i set my maximum amount of virtual ram to if i have 512 mb of ram?joncoh
