I just switched over to Vista Ultimate x64 from XP Home a little over a month ago. I have since increased my memory to a total of 4 gigs. Would increasing the Ram show any improvement in performance, if so, would doubling my memory to a total of 8 gigs be beneficial in any way ?

Yeah, unless you have a specific application that needs that much RAM, its not going to make much or any difference.

would running a 64-bit version of vista on 2gb of RAM be smart? or would more RAM be required for a pleasing performance rate? jw since this relates to this topic and im thinking of upgrading to vista fairly soon

Only when running heavy graphical programs 8 GB RAM could be usefull, just fir regular gaming and computer use, 4 GB is more then enough.

Nowadays 2 GB is normal.

If you're running CAD programs it would be helpful. But I doubt you'd be asking that if you actually did use CAD programs.

Only if you have some 64-bit programs that could use that much ram, which is doubtful. a 32-bit program won't use anything over 2 GB so 8 GB will be completely useless.

I have 4Gb of ram also and Vista will never use any more than 3GB so 8GB would be a waste of money.

Most games only use up to 2-3 gigs.
