Hi,

I'm running windows vista on my laptop and I use the Aero theme (translucent windows, extra graphics, etc.)

I have a suspicion that it robs my laptop of computing power. If I were to switch the theme to Aero basic (special animations and translucency both turned off) would my laptop be running any faster?

It all depends. For me Aero speeds everything up since my video card takes over from the CPU. If the video in your laptop is not good enough it might be better to turn it off. I suggest turning it off if you have integrated video.

i actually turned mine off and i could tell a difference, actually i switched it over to the faux XP design. i can tell it moves a little quicker like this.
