What do you mean by it "won't run?" It won't start when you log-in to Windows..?

1) Press "Start"

2) Type "msconfig" in to the Start Search box and press "Enter."

3) Click the "Services" tab.

4) Find the "Windows Firewall" service. Check the checkbox beside it and press "Apply."

Alright, if the service doesn't start at this point (which it probably won't) do this:

1) Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc

2) Click the "Services" tab

3) Scroll through the list and find the service named "MpsSvc." You'll see "Windows Firewall" under the service description.

4) Right click the service and select "Start Service."

It didn't work, Someone please help me? Coughs

Give a bit more detail than "it didn't work," please. We can't help if you don't expand.

Does the service refuse to start? When you try to start it, does the service stay at "Stopped?" Does the service start and but it's still listed as "Firewall Disabled" in the security center? Have you even tried enabling the firewall via the Security Center? (which is where you should've started, I just assumed you already tried it.)

Additionally, what did this site have you disable in terms of services?

Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.

Just get a better firewall, Zonealarm springs to mind but i had trouble getting that to work on Vista. I have Comodo at the moment and i can't fault it, best firewall i've used so far

This is why it's a good idea not to disable a service unless you know exactly what its function is. I'm really not sure what the disabled dependency service could be.

What I would do: just return to the standard Vista start-up configuration. It will re-enable all of the services you disabled and should return your firewall functionality to normal.

To do that Start-->msconfig-->"General Tab" and select "Normal Startup."

From there, disable the Vista services you don't want enabled (Superfetch, File Indexing, and a few others in my case)

The Firewall service depends on the

  • Base Filtering Engine
  • RPC
  • DCOM SErver Process Launcher

You need to start/enable those services first.
