Ok, i'm having trouble running a few of my older games on vista, for example the mp portion of cod2, ive been told to set them to run in win service pack 2 mode and check the box that says run as admin, and even though my profile is admin it wont let me check that box, this is a really annoying problem and i would love some help on it.

Another game i can't get going is Warcraft: Orcs And Humans but i probly have to get a Dox Emu for that........

i wouldnt recommend that since he probably spent like 200 bucks on vista. now did you patch cod2 to the newest patch? Also turn of your AA i heard of that problem with COD2 before and what happens when you try to play it would help...not just "ive been having trouble"

LOL :D I have no probs with Vista, after some tweaking it feels much like XP anyway, and runs extremely well! (Ultimate x64) Good performance, stable, good compatibility, advanced users will lose the UAC.

Try DOSBox for Warcraft, looks like it's supported. DOSBox works nicely with Vista. http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/comp_list.php?showID=166&letter=W

COD2 supposedly works with Vista http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1969541,00.asp (they claimed they needed to Run as administrator for benchmarking)

Vista has some new security settings that are different that XP. Even though you are logged in as admin, you can only do a certain command when you specifically say "run as admin". You should right click on the COD2.exe and say run as administrator. If that doesn't work, right click go to properties and run the game in compatability mode for Windows XP with service pack 2.

You can just try and turning off UAC so you don't run into Admin Permission problems.

Start > Accessories > Run... > Type: msconfig > Tools > Disable UAC > Launch > Reboot

Sounds to me like you need Activision Customer Support!

Give them a ring, you might actually get the help you need.

Call them back up and politely inform them that any reason why CoD might not work is completely down to the developers not following the proper DirectX/Windows API guidelines. If they had indeed followed these guidelines, it would work no problems on Vista! ;)

In other words, if you do talk to them again don't mention that you have Vista. So many publishers/vendors supportlines simply click on autopilot when they hear Vista: "Vista is not a supported nor tested platform."

Either way, after having a quick look at http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Software_Compatibility_List (VEry useful page, I recommend you bookmark it)

It simply says you just need to run cod2mp_s.exe in XP SP2 compability mode; SP fine. So if you're already doing that, it's probably a driver issue (you *have* updated your drivers since installing Vista? ;))

Hope this helps.

NP, hope it works. It does sound like it is probably an issue with drivers or the software itself. If the compat mode doesn't fix it, completely re-install it, run it after it's reinstalled, *then* patch, then try again.
