XP. Vista is only good right now if you much have DX10. If you ask me, its not worth it yet.

dx10 is vista only. I would defintely get vista, alot of people like to hate on it but they are just ignorant. Haven't had a single problem with vista at all.

Doesn't matter. If it was me I'd go with Vista unless i had a copy of XP i could use.

Vista isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be, unless your anal about 5fps less in some games, 2k off your 3dmark06 score and have a favorite game you know that won't work with it (I'm still pissed my MS-Dos games don't work with XP).

Plus, there is always the duel boot option.

Going into Vista i only partitioned half my hard drive (thanks a lot all you naysayers) in case I didn't like Vista and wanted to pick up a copy of XP and duel boot them. I guess i can always use it for Linuxs (then again i don't know what i'd use Linuxs for).

You can hack it, and get DX10 if you like. There isnt much of a difference in the visuals. Also if you get Vista, the visuals will eat your hardware, so if you do get it, right click on desktop and turn down the visuals. Also Vista slows down games, you can see here as proof in your favorite game

http://www.gamespot.com/hardware.html?type=hardware&category=Performance%20Guide&dlx_type=all&sortdir=asc&tag=topslot;title;3&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot

I know that if you don't want to hack DX, you can hack games separately. i.e. Crysis: you can hack its DX9 settings and set it to DX10.

Cheers,

Vista. Why build a new computer and put an old OS in there? If you want those 2-3 extra frames you gain with XP then go for it, otherwise I'd stick with something a bit more future proof.

Vista.Installing a 7 year old OS on a new computer is not a bright idea. You want the latest OS to take advantage of the new hardware and software. It's not just a matter of directx 10. In a few years you'll be left in the dust if you still use XP.
