I have a PC with stats in my sig. I just now ordered the Vista Premium package. I was wondering what I should know and if I need any tools to run the dual core processors. With windows XP I had to go through some trouble for the PC to realize I have a dual core, I had to install certain programs because I had an older version of XP. I am guessing I will just intall Vista and it should run everything properly right?

Anyways, I would like to know if I made the right decision about moving to Vista now from the people who have been using it...since everyone keeps telling me to stay with XP because Vista is way to early in its life. Wait for service pack two my friends say.....I was annoyed though and want to run Crysis on DX10 so I said bah and bought it. What else should I know before installing it?

-Thanks in advance

You'll be fine, you don't need to do anything fancy for dual cores. And for what its worth, I've been enjoying Vista and haven't been experiencing problems.

You don't need anything extra for dual cores like you did with XP. Vista is a much better OS than XP so don't worry...just get all the most recent Vista drivers.

When I had Vista installed I was playing CnC3 and Cs Source, I had to drop the graphics settings for both games when doing so. Just giving you a heads up that if you like to run games on full graphics, for now Vista is not the way to go.

Vista had a few problems for me at first but - use windows update, it fixed almost all drivers and all problems that I had. Vista isnt that bad of an OS, once I got used to this I didn't want to change back to XP.

somethings not right then, if youre not playing css at max, on that rig. Vista would have little if anything to do with it, unless you didnt have the latest drivers for the relevant things, in which case why not? Theyre not hard to get.

Vista is a great os. The main thing people get annoyed with is the uac, which is the thing that pops up to make sure that you want to do something important (and sometimes not so important things). Its a useful security device, but since it can be a pain, and most people have other anti virus and anti spyware software, you can turn it off, which is not hard.

i would just dual boot vista with xp. on my rig there are some older games where there is no difference betweem xp and vista but newer more graphically intense games run better on xp.

dx10 : right now there are no games that give you any visual advantagess ober dx 9 that are worth the performance hit. for that you might have to wait till crysis and seeing that the demo is delayed you will have to wait longer :(

Vista is fine really. Somethings take some getting used to like the new start menu and the User Account Control.

As to DX10, honestly if gamespot hadn't pointed out the differences in their comparisons I wouldn't have noticed them. However thats because right now games are only using DX10 for a few little effects, that should change soon.

All I know is since I figured out how to get my card to simply WORK in Vista, I ditched my XP partition and clean installed Vista Home Premium. The drivers out now (came out a couple days ago) are a lot more stable for me, and games run just fine. Maybe a 5-8 FPS decrease over XP, but I was/am ready to use a new OS. Vista is just slick.
