hello fellow pc gamers. I am sadly writing this to you on a macintosh computer.  ON the bright side however i will be getting a very very good pc in the next couple weeks/ month or so. And I have only one question at the moment.  Should I have the computer installed with windows Xp or Vista.  I know that I will have to upgrade eventually but is it still worth it to have XP for the next year or so?

Unless you want Direct X 10, currently XP has the best performance for gaming, due to lower overhead.

if you would have to buy either, I would suggest getting Vista now.  It isn't as bad as people make it to be and for me its pros outweight the cons.  However, if you already have a copy of XP, wait to buy Vista.

If I was starting out with a new computer today and did not have an operating system for it, I admit that I would go with Vista right off the bat.  However, my situation isn't like that and I will definitely run XP until the end of the year at least.

vista is a pain in the a@ss for gaming. Lots of games fail to finish installing. Many more fail to work. Also when they do work it will run slower on vista than on XP. If I were you install both.

I would just go for Vista. I was dual booting XP and Vista but haven't had to go back to XP in a while now.

Gimme a couple of pro's.

DirectX 10 for the future of course. Highly streamlined, better built in searching, Aero looks nice but it's just eye candy of course and there are a lot of little things that add up to a good experience. Plus all the games I own now play fine on Vista.

Edit: There is also the media center stuff I used in Beta which was nice though sorta buggy. I was only given Business for free so can't say how this ended up.

The bugs are with the drivers not the vista OS. Everyoen hear seems to blame Microsoft because nvidia cannot get their drivers right. That's dumb...
