Most new computers come standard with Vista. It's actually not as bad as you'd think, give it a try.

I'm running Vista x64, very stable all things considered. It takes a while to get used to how things are organized, but in the end you'll realize that it makes sense. The old school Control Panel layout is still available for those who can't let go of the old one. The start menu is much more organized and compact, doesn't explode and take up half the screen while still getting the same job done. Also the instant search is very helpful. Windows Update is a much more fluid process, hit update and done, doesn't have to go through a browser or anything. Vista's cache makes apps load really fast. A lot of people complain about UAC, as well as other notifications, they are easily disabled for those who don't need the extra protection. Aero is a nice touch as well, also it is the best 64-bit Windows to date, there is great 64-bit support for Vista.

Sorry, it isn't possible for things to be hard to "find", USE SEARCH it's simple computers know where everything is before you even ask, XP on the other hand has a TERRIBLE search, Vista is good. People fall for Mac's marketing schemes yes Mac is nice, but seriously you don't own it therfore you don't really have a opinon, your just reciting other people's opinon. GET VISTA seriously.

I was like you, at one point.
I used to hate Vista, but now that I actually got it, I'm glad I did.

I say give it a go.

Since Windows 7 is supposedly going to launch in two years, if someone has avoided Vista this long I see no point in changing OS. Personally I still use XP.

i have a dual boot system with vista 64 and xp and i rarely use vista. a lot of non gaming software still isnt compatible with it and my sound card drivers for vista 64 are still in the beta stage (been waiting over a year now). other than seeing games in dx10 i have no reason to use it.
