turn on vsync. say good bye to decent fps.

Or try different drivers and check your refresh rate.

that will put your fps to around the refresh rate of your monitor.

that is the best visual experience

VSYNC should help...update your drivers at nVIDIA.com

The monitor really won't have much of an effect on your performance...up until 3 months ago, I was using a monitor I got back in '95...CRTs are awesome for gaming ;-) because of their higher refresh rate. But I finally gave into getting an widescreen LCD.

Another thing you might want to consider is getting an actual video card instead of using the integrated video chipset on the motherboard.

From the specs, I'm assuming you have a fairly new HP desktop. From my experience with those PC's, you need to replace the power supply if you want to use a better graphics card though.

Good Luck!

v-snyc will align the images so the top tear will not happen, but your performance is usually horrendous

vsync does not lower fps, it caps it at your displays refresh rate. Meaning you can get 60 max at 60, or 75 max at 75 and so on and so forth.

60 fps is more then enough, there will be no other effects aside from capping your fps. there is a setting that alows it to go higher if it's a big deal to you though. It's called tripple buffering I beleave.

in short though you wont lose performance, you will gain image quality though!

I read something in PC Gamer that said that basically it harms your framerate not because of the cap on your frame rate, but because of the fact that in order to perform a "sync" it requires the game to slow down in order to catch up.

Don't quote me on that because that's not a very technical explanation. That's just how I understand v-sync.

It definitely hurts performance.

lcds cant show pure black.

that's because of the backlight i think. But I love my new LCd widescreen much more than my 2002 CRT, i think the picure is so much more crisp.

Hes got a 6100. He will have to deal with the tearing. Cause that GPU can not V-sync any game out to the monitors refresh rate.
