Because Blizzard/Vivendi never signed a distribution agreement with Valve.

Go to your nearest Wal-Mart. Chances are they will have enough copies of the StarCraft Battlechest for you to shake a stick at. And it will probably cost you all of $15-20.

So can you still register Blizz stuff with Steam to use all of Steam's features with it and whatnot?

Wait a sec...

You want to play Blizzard games on Steam? Sorry to break it to you, but as it currently stands, that's not possible. Shoot, I've even tried registering my non-Steam bought games (but are offered via the Steam catalog) on Steam (basically inputing my serial numbers into the "Activate a product on Steam" wizard) to no avail.

In your case, it doesn't help that none of the Blizzard games are even offered via Steam. That being said, you can add the games to be launched via the Steam launcher. Just bear in mind that you'll still need the CDs and that the games won't be updated using the Steam updater.

Blizzard do not need to distribute games via STEAM. It would mean loosing money to valve , without making a huge difference in sales.
