My motherboard has the option to do it but for some reason it doesn't work. I've got it to work on my dads computer but I can't seem to get it to work on mine. I've even tried using his keyboard. What am I doing wrong?

Get to your device manager, select keyboard properties and go through the tabs at the top. Under power or something like that there will be an tick box to say wake pc from this device.

It already had a check mark there so that didn't work. I hope you know I am actually talking about powering on the PC when it's completely off and not sleep mode.

you cant do that. considering the keyboard is powered by the PC, if the PC is turned off their is no power in the USB ports. so how can a device function without any power.

You can do it. My dads PC can do it. Hes got an old asrock motherboard and I can power it on by just pressing any button on the keyboard when it's totally off.

My dads keyboard stays lit after the PC is completely turned off just so you guys know. I've even seen it totally off(thekeyboard) and it still turned on. However if you turned it off by pulling the power or holding the button down the normal keyboard turn on method would not work unless you shut it down normally.

That's a bit of old ps\2 port functionality. I've never seen a USB keyboard power on a PC from coldstart.

My friend has the same board options as yours and his works. He can easily cold boot it. Sadly I can't get it to work for me :(

Why don't you just use sleep mode? It's one hell of a lot faster (boot time is only a few seconds, and you can resume where you left off the day before). You can wake from sleep using pretty much any USB device as well.

On another note, have you tried the keyboard in a different USB port?
