I would like to build a pc that can play more recent games at a very high quality. First, what kind of a budget am I looking at to accomplish this, second I am a complete noob when it comes to this so I have no idea what parts would be wise to use. I am not even good at deciphering what works with eachother. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Are you starting completely from scratch or do you have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, and/or a copy of Windows to use already?

$600 without a monitor would be a good start, but $800 would get you something more future proof.

Personally I would just avoid the hassle of building a PC and get an Alienware. They can max any game on ultra, plus they have a cool Alien logo.

I have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, and a copy of Windows 7.

In that case, for a gaming rig you can get something that plays games fairly well for ~$500-550, something that plays games very very well for ~$700-800, or something that kicks the crap out of everything for about ~$900-1000. Now for us to help you better you'll want to specifiy a budget range.

Don't listen to this guy, that alienware logo costs you at least 50% more than what you can build the PC for.

Okay, one more question then I'll help you part out a build OP. Are you wanting a full-tower case, a mid-tower, or a small but powerful computer? A mid-tower is the size you normally think of when you see a "big" tower in person, as few people outside of enthusiasts have full-towers. And small cases are usually much more difficult to build in, so if this is your first I would recommend against them.

Well, I went ahead and put a build together, this is what I would personally get for ~$1000 Good and relatively cheap upgrades from this include: -A different case with extra features/fans -A third party CPU heatsink (maybe even with custom fans) -A Blu-Ray drive -A 2TB hard drive instead of a 1TB More expensive upgrades would be: -Adding a SSD -Getting a different PSU from a manufacturer like Corsair or Seasonic -Full-tower case

Get the i5-3570k cpu so you can use USB 3.0 and pci-e 3.0. It costs about the same as the i5-2500k.

I hear bad things about OCZ power supplies, so get a Corsair, Seasonic or XFX power supply. 650W is sufficient. 750W if you plan on adding another video card later.

Add an aftermarket cpu cooler like the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus.

I'm not sure if the Coolermaster HAF case has front USB 3.0 ports. The Antec 302 case has that.

Personally I would buy the XFX Radeon HD 7870 Double D. It's around $250 and isn't much slower than the 7950.

Add 1 or 2 120mm fan that has PWM.

All the other components are good.

Edit: I recommend the G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4GB 1600 Mhz (red heatsink).

And why not get yourself a sata3 6.0 Gbps hard drive like a Seagate or Hitachi. I don't recommend the Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB because it's loud.

Edit: I thought that General_X was the original poster, my mistake.

That's pretty good, I'd just get a 600W PSU instead.

modular is fun but id get this one for same price after rebate
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021 Corsair TX750 V2 which is plenty enough to sli / crossfire any Video card atm and in future since there TDP are Likely to be lower and there far more reliable then OCZ but OCZ are Good budget's

For CPU cooler i recommend Havik 140 or 120 but if there not in sales you can alway pick a hyper 212+ evo it seem to manage i5 2500k at 4.5ghz with temp of 65C max as average while for my havik 140 stock it about 49C
