ive just upgraded my computer so i can play the latest games at reasonable/max settings.

 intel pentium d 820 @2.8ghz

nvidia geforce 8800 gts 320mb

 1gb of pc2-5300 ram

corsair hx520 psu

160gb hdd

19 inch monitor

ive been playing battlefield 2 for the past few months on my pc ,before i upgraded, on low settings. now that ive upgraded, its great to play i on max settings at around 70fps. however in the past few days ive been craving some new games.

i was wondering if you could suggest me a list of 3-5 recent games(in the past 2 years) that i should play to pass some of the time ,as im on holiday from school. i dont care about the genre, as long as i will enjoy it.

help much appreciated

At this point I'd suggest trying other genres and seeing what you really like.. UT2k4 is very different, but still an online FPS that you may enjoy differently than BF..

Then Oblivion is one of those big popular games you may enjoy.. Dark Messiah..

You can try Galactic Civilizations, and see if you're into those slow paced type games..

Single play FPSes, like HL2, which will open up tons of mods that I'm sure one you'll enjoy.. Stalker is popular..

RTSes.. try some of those newer ones someone will probably suggest..

Basically, you may just absolutely love some genre and it'll blow your mind, so try different ones and see :p

Maybe try some MMOs, too.. Everyone's first MMO if they enjoy them are always teeerrible time-suckers, but fun. LoTRO is the latest I know of being really popular

Battlefield 2, Supreme Commander, Call of Duty 2 and Titan Quest are some games that will last you awhile, and they will take advantage of your system because they have good graphics.

First off, get 2 GB of RAM. Games are getting bloated enough that even 1 GB isn't enough, and if you're as unfortunate as I am and only have 512 MB of DDR-266, you can forget playing any modern games without massive stuttering. Second, get a Core 2 Duo if your motherboard supports it. I'm pretty sure that both Pentium D and C2D CPUs still utilize LGA775, but chipset limitations can prevent the use of newer CPUs. Now, on to the games: -Armed Assault. If you're a fan of realistic military FPSs like Operation Flashpoint, you MUST get this game! -Battlefield 2. It's a blast to play, but if you're a realism stickler, the game might turn you off. -TESIV: Oblivion. It's a decent FPRPG that could last you a while. -IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946. Currently the most popular of WWII sims, it should make good use of your hardware(though you shouldn't expect shaders and stuff out the wazoo). As with any hardcore flight sim, though, expect a high learning curve. There's a lot more out there, but not much else that I'm interested in(for instance, I don't like RTSs unless I can control my units FPS-style). As for future titles: -Bioshock. It's a spiritual successor to System Shock, and judging from the trailers that I've seen, it's set to deliver on that premise. -Crysis. You can't have a PC gaming thread without Crysis nowadays. The singleplayer may be quite fun, but I'm really looking foward to the Power Struggle multiplayer mode-that could easily beat the everliving crap out of Battlefield 2 if they do it right. (Component vehicle damage means that you can shoot the wheels off of cars and the like, and then there's the houses and trees that you can just outright destroy!) Again, not much else upcoming for PC that interests me too much.
