I am in the market for a new computer and want to have one built. My current rig was built in 2007 by Velocity Micro and shipped to me and I've just started to see some games won't runlike I'd want them to. Honestly, I don't know crap about the guts of the rig and I don't care to know. I just want it to run smoothly and I'[ll pay to have it. I have no issues going back to Velocity Micro (I've been pleased), but is there another company I should be considering? I know it would be a hell of a lot cheaper if I had a friend build one - I just don't know that person. :-)

As much as I appreciate the last response, like my original post said, I don't know anything about the guts - nor I do I care to. Looking for a company to build and willing to pay for it. Velocity Micro again?

Base on the prices of that company than it seems that you must get paid hundreds of bucks an hour in order to warrant a worthy purchase there. Since you can save a couple hundred bills by just sitting down with a cup coffee to plug legos (pc rig) together in an hour, two hours tops if you take your dandy time and I guess you have to install windows also but a caveman can do that too.

ignore that last post....he was just messing around with you. I dunno about velocity micro, but if it worked for you before then do it again. So basically you buy the parts and they build it together for you?

I exaggerated a pinch but that is only to help. Check the site, +$340 for gtx 560ti 1gb, +$200 for 1tb harddrive and the psu is unknown brand.

But if you learned about the guts... you could know if you could runs teh games.

I'm just sayin' it's not difficult at all I promise. But you can ignore me and throw money at some company to build for you.

It's not a bad thing if he doesn't want to spend a few minutes to build on his own. Leave the guy in peace. To the guy that should be left in peace: you should still know what parts are important so you know what to actually put into your PC. even better, know enough about parts and buy them on your own, then pay someone $50/$100 to assemble it.

If you don't want to figure it out, that is fine. It can be confusing early on when you aren't sure how to build one. As said, it is no harder than putting together expensive legos and reading an instructional manual. Curious, what is your budget or purpose for this computer? You never really gave us anything to work with. If you go with a prebuild, get something from Ibuypower or CyberpowerPC. Both of those are great for prebuilds, but you can still save hundreds building yourself.

If you get bored some weekend, grab some popcorn and watch this series. It is pretty old, so most of the information is outdated, but otherwise great for learning about everything.

as you can see everyone here will tell you build it yourself. if you do consider that it really isnt hard i built my first rig no problems everything is made to only plug one way nowadays so the hardest part is reading your motherboard manual lol. but anyway if your really against it. that site you are talking about seems real expensive and a little dodgy id recommend finding a local place to put together the parts you order if you decide not to build yourself.

I've been looking at some companies pricing strategies, and Cyberpowerpc.com shocked me, I specced my rig and it came to £946, I spent just under £700 (that's without keyboard, OS, Mouse or monitor for either price)

I was shocked, and I'm considering starting my own custom PC business

The one I purchased in 2007 from Velocity Micro was $1800. Willing to spend at least that or even up to $2500. I know, I know, I know it's cheaper if I built it myself - I can't do it and won't even try.

If you think you got a good deal last time, just buy from there again.

Or get a Mac.

Edit: I checked out the Velocity Micro site. The prices almost gave me a brain tumour.

Building a PC is as simple as:

Unbox the motherboard, put it in that box.

Insert CPU into socket, apply thermal grease

Insert RAM into sockets

Plug in the CPU fan and screw it in attatched to the CPU.

Screw the motherboard into your case.

Screw the PSU into your case

Slide the GPU into the PCI socket

Read the motherboard manual to find out where to plug the case conectors into

Plug in the case connectors

Plug the PSU into everything and give it power.

That's about as hard as it is. Other things, such as installing optical drives and hard drives are self explanatory enough you can figure it out.

Seriously though, build your own. Otherwise go Ibuypower. Everywhere else will rip you off $500 or more at the price point you are talking about, Ibuypower still will though, though it is about half that.

CONCLUSION: Spend an hour or two learning and assembling your own build. Saves you $200+, makes you proud of your rigs performance and gives you a confidence boost. Also makes you feel smarter.

CONCLUSION 2: Spend a few hours picking out a prebuilt computer where they make everything seem complicated. Rips you off $200+, makes you feel dumber. Also it supports companies that will rip more people off.

i.e. "I can't do 5 minutes of research due to my percieved imbecility and would rather waste $1500 to have done what a 10 year old is capable of doing."

How do you live life with such a weak-minded attitude?

Dude... $2500?? In the time you've spend asking people what to do on these forums, you could've assembled your own computer for less than $1000. It's easy. DO IT
