I want a Gaming Laptop or Desktop. Don't get me wrong, I like the Xbox, but it lacks a lot of elements that the Computer has. Can you reccomend any Alienware Computer/laptops good enough to run Skyrim under $1,000? If you can't find one under 1 grand, just reccomend one that will run Skyrim. All help appreciated!

Build your own desktop is the cheapest.

Though I have an alienware netbook too :P for a backup computer, still woops a** for $550 bought last yr. However again performance and money with alienwares dont mix well since they hike their prices like crazy!

I know this is going to sound lazy, But I don't want to build my own. Seems like it takes to long and I am not too good with computer assembly. I am good with everything else on computers, just not hardware. I am not looking to run Crisis on max settings, just want something that can play Skyrim with ease.

It takes like an hour to assemble a computer. You get better performance than the Alienware and lower costs so you can have better parts.

Newegg has good prices (I assume you're in the US). And if you're afraid you'll screw something up you can pay someone to build a PC for you and it will still be cheaper than Alienware.

Why don't you just tell us how much money you want to spend and what exactly you need, meaning do you need a monitor, os, mouse and keaboard, speakers, etc. We'll take care of the rest ;).

total $1285.91 USD

case is a matter a preferance, so i would go through and pick w/e you like. i just grabbed a random one off the page between $75-$100. just make sure the case is ATX.

i would say you don't even need the sound card if you aren't an audiophile. onboard sound is is fine for most people. i only included it because you said you needed one.

Buy an Alienware x51. For $950 theres one that can play Skyrim on max. The system is so small. Its much easier to take with you if you want to go somewhere with it.

You can reuse the case for a future build.

Here's what I got:

Z77 Extreme4, 3570K, Hyper 212 Evo, MSI 7870, G.Skill Sniper 2x4GB, HAF 932 Advanced, Corsair TX750, Samsung DVD burner, Windows 7. Totals $1186 if my math is good, including shipping and rebates. Now you could get a Z68 board and 2500K and save ~$50, and you could also get a cheaper case and save another $50 or so. The power supply is good for another 7870, or any single gpu, so if you want a 7970 or 7950 it's not a problem. Your choice.

+1 to disregard that comment C_Rule is right.

OP, believe me when I say it. Don't buy Alienware. Don't just don't. Building your own is so simple, it's nearly impossible to mess it up, a 10 year old could do it quite easily so you can too.

Newegg has some pretty good videos on learning the basics. Here:

Basics on what everything is and what it does

How to put it together

Installing Windows 7, and what drivers you need to update

Ask yourself, is it worth like 4 hours of your time to have a better computer for a few years? Yes, yes it is.

And here's the other thing about building. The slots are made so that stuff can only fit in one way, and all the connections for the wires are clearly labeled. Simple!

i have a corsair 650D and i love it, lots of people tend to like cooler master HAF cases and nzxt switch and phantom are also popular. these are all a bit expensive i think, but i would say worth it.

From the money saved on an alienware, I can buy you enough lights to decorate your entire house like christmas yet still enough for strobe cathode lights inside the pc.

I bought an 17x Alienware laptop it was an i7 but it wasn't what I hoped it would be so be sure, you can get a way better system for the price, you pay for the brand with those also. Real nice machines I would love another but it's just not powerful enough compared with desktops you can get for way less.

I just bought a new rig from there and it's awesome. You get a great amount of choices to configure it exactly the way you want and they build it for you. It will blow alienware away and cost less (I came from an Alienware M17x).

Hope if you choose to build a computer thats your descision. Wouldnt want you to be pressured to build one. Ive seen many people with builds that have problems because they were pressured into building one.

Your right these guys on here are great, they have also been helping me and stopped me waiting my cash on a system that looked nice on paper but would have bottlenecked the gfx so now they have guided me to a machine that will run anything now and in the next coupleif years. Check out my built to order desktop,it's not an Alienware but beware I had the Alienware m17 x but sent it back to dell as I realised I spent to mutch on a system brand rather than hardware for the performance I needed. I do want to put you off Alienware laptop sure I do because I don't want you having the same change of heart after you have your hands on it....oh the fan noise on those sounds like a jet engine once they get going also but it just made me feel more like a man than a nerd lol. Here is the setup I have and about to order. Take note it also comes with a 23" monitor in the price... www.uk.gamespot.com/forums/topic/29153980/would-you-please-check-this-setup-for-me?page=1

I don't need sacarasm. I really don't know how to assemble computers. I have no clue if the Video applies to the parts listed... Alienware or some other brand will work well. I am not looking to compete with other Gamespotters, I just want to play some games on the PC.

Like I said, that x51 for $950 can max out current games. A guy at a computer shop even said if I wanted a new build in my x51 case he would do it for $50.

Just don't want to mess something up like RAM or the Motherboard.

if it makes you feel better do it, but this is a poor excuse if it is the only think keeping you from building. a child could easily do this. lego sets are harder, and this isn't an exaggeration or a joke, they are actually harder. the most difficult part of a computer build is keeping the wires looking neat.... i let my 5 year old help me build my HTPC.

I was under the impression that the X51 used a custom FF motherboard, or am I mistaken?

It uses a regular mini itx motherboard.
