I'm looking forward to it much more now; I don't really like MMOs.

Shame about the layoffs though :(

That's almost half of Vigil's staff (around 190). Relic wasn't hit that hard, they had around 150 employees.

Never good to see anyone get fired over something like this. However, the chances of this particular MMO succeeding were probably pretty slim anyway.

Yeah i'd say this is backwards, they should have fired people if it was to be a MMO, but now it's something that is likely to be successful and won't cost as much to run.

Bad to see people lose jobs, but removing it from the MMO scene was a good choice

It must suck to be a developer. Unless you are a top engineer or a top game designer with name recognitiion, the state of your employment is in constant flux.

Who wants to live like that? How do you have a family in those conditions?

Are vigil the same people that make the Darksiders games?

Shame to see Layoffs at relic, hopefully none of the few remaining talented people there are given the boot.

Good, maybe it can be more like what Space Marine was initially touted as...I would enjoy that a hell of a lot more than a MMO.

Yep, they're the people behind the Darksiders series and the new MMO that isn't a MMO anymore, I hope Darksiders 2 will get the attention it deserves.

Hmm....don't know what to think. Lay Offs of course are bad. But in relation to the game, didn't the same thing happen to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning ??? And I've been told that didn't sell well.

No. That was Big Huge Games' singleplayer RPG from the start. When the company was bought by 38 Studios it was reskinned and acts a prequel to 38's MMO.

Ok. I've read reports though that it started as an MMO and later on they decided to make it a SP game. It plays EXACTLY like an Offline MMO. You get to a town, Exclamation Marks pop up everywhere, fetch quests, shops and Auction House etc.

For some perspective, this guy is the lead designer.

Well, THQ is in a financial crisis. Better that it wasn't canceled altogether. We'll at least get some sort of decent Warhammer 40k game. I hope.

It's much better then releasing a failure with tons of money spent on it.

I wasn't too bothered about the genre of the game, but I feel sorry for even more people being layed off :/ - It's hard enough to get a job nowadays, and to lose it over something that is potentially an incorrect decision seems unfair (to me at least).

It sucks that all of those people were laid off. I really hope they find something else quickly.

That said, I think MMOs are the most horrible thing ever, and I'm really happy to hear that a new Warhammer game is coming out. I just hope it doesn't have point and click combat, because it will be even harder to put up with crappy gameplay without the "social" element there to back it up.

Space Marine is a solid game, but I'm hoping it will be a lot better. If they're going to give me "Space Marines 2," then forget it.

This would be one of the few MMOs where fetch quests and "kill X dudes" quests would make sense.

Specifically, "fetch 20 skulls for my skull throne" and "exterminate 500 dudes for the Emprah".

My only hope now is that I can play an Inquisitor and be a massive douchebag to everyone.

FOR THE EMPRAH

(also please bring back Mark Strong and make him voice every character)

Hope it gets released and it is mod friendly. But yeah I can live with SP, if it has a large world dynamic combat and tons of WH40K fluf.

Good news in their decision not to make a MMO.
