ok, so i have this absolutely perfect build in my newegg cart, however, i'm still only 17, and my parents are saying i can't buy the thing yet because they want me to focus on school.... my current computer has a million problems. USB functionality comes in and out sometimes, even though my LAPTOP through wireless can run 88 mb/s on my awesome fiber-optic internet, hardwired, this desktop can only get like 12 mb/s. the CD drive just failed, it's out of memory on HDD (227 mb left of 180 gb on C drive) and my speakers are broken. my dad says if it fails any MORE he'll let me buy my new one, so my question is, don't judge me, is there a way to make it fake some sort of intermittent mobo problem? i'm considering setting the blue screen of death to my screensaver, but he'd figure that out. i might try making it my desktop then force quitting windows explorer.

so any ideas?

1) 88mbit/s? That means you can download like 4 gb in 2 minutes... WTF?

2) Set the voltage on your CPU to like 2 so it fries and burns out... then you can take it out and show it to him...

you could possibly damage the mobo battery, or bend one of the pins where the cmos jumper is, or for fun make your hands statically charged and touch your ram while its on lol

i'd really rather not ruin it permanently, since most of the problems atm is it doesn't work as a desktop like i want it to, and i want to use it for a print server. and whatever i do can't hurt my graphics card, because i'm using it in SLI on my new computer. (using a good workstation card and gaming card in sli so that i can do both =D)

Don't buy that PC just yet! My friend RedXSniper on here is trying to sell his high-end gaming computer and he needs the money. Here is his craigslist page http://toledo.craigslist.org/sys/1353749879.html

what i was hoping for is like a command prompt command that will cause the blue screen of death, because if this thing blue screened my dad would let me get the new one in a heartbeat. he hates trying to fix computers, and idk how to fix windows problems.

ooh, messing up vista would work too.

From a google search:

"How to get BSOD:

  • Run regedit
  • go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\kbdhid\Parameters if you have an USB keyboard or to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters if you have a ps/2 keyboard
  • Add a new DWORD CrashOnCtrlScroll with 1 as value
  • Reboot to apply changes
  • Hold down right Ctrl and hit Scroll Lock twice

Download a BIOS update and turn off your computer mid-update or something. That WILL work.

not for gaming man, it's a workstation.... i'm at DAVE school atm (digital art and visual effects) and my old pc has an 8800gt in it. the quadro fx 3700 card i'm putting in my workstation can't even run battlefield 2 (it's optimized for 3d, so it has some 20 million poly limits on 3ds max, but sucks for gaming) so i'm going to take the 8800gt from my current one and put it in the new one, then get some wretched little 128 mb card from a really old computer to put in my current pc, and use it as a print server. sorry i kinda suck at communicating, this is why i'm learning VISUAL effects

And $1000 for that build? Maybe for $850, but definitely not for $1000. I can make a Core i7 build with that kind of money.

According to that site, it just causes a memory dump that crashes to a blue screen...

I'm thinking it doesn't really matter, but i'd say go with hexdecimal considering that is what the values (either 0 or 1) are set to in my reg.

@Ultimategamer95- Rex is charging way to much for his computer, especially since he is a unknown name (ppl can't trust him yet). He should really lower the price to just slightly above what he really paid for it in order to build up credibilty and new customers....plus reading this on his ad "This computer can play all games at maximum settings including Crysis and Crysis Warhead" makes me feel he is a complete liar and/or an idiot, and makes me very against buying from him.

You can always splash some water on it while it is running. But that might end up being more dangerous to you than tot he computer. Or get a hammer and smash it and say it was an act of god. D:

You could download a really bad virus, but then he could just tell you to reformat, or you could electro-shock the ram, then it wouldn't turn on, and he may assume it's the mobo...then you'd just have to put new ram in it to get it back working I suppose.

I know this, i was just meaning that in my reg. it is set to hexdecimal for the option being either enabled (1) or disabled (0)...should have said "and" instead of "or" (silly AND/OR aurguments :)).

so it looks as though he can use either and it will work

If the computers really that bad just overclock the cpu to a major extent or put the voltage way up, it shouldent hurt your graphics card at all.

If you know how to reformat your computer and do not mind doing it then download a virus. A nasty one that will mess up your computer. Then once your dad believes you, reformat it. If you do not have the vista disk the burn the recovery to a DVD or download Windows 7 RC and then you have to buy a OS next July at the earliest.

Look through your mobo manual to see what jumpers can be set. That way you should be able to disable something crucial or cause some boot error without doing any permanent damage.

Lol just try this out. Make a complete system backup on either a different HDD or multiple DVDs and then completely destroy your system registry and system files and it's services:D. That was something i did once and it made it very difficult to do ANYTHING. BSODs, failure to boot, no system restore funtions (since the services don't exhist), no safe mode...nothing. You can boot your backup DVDs and stuff to fix the problem....just don't tell your parents you actually HAVE backups lol.

EDIT: you can recover your system back to what it was so not permanent damage, at least not when I did it anyway.

I would just make it impossible to boot windows. Either corrupt some system files, or even unplug the HDD. So when he computer boots it will say "no boot device found"

Also, just wondering but won't your dad realize that you were just lying to him once you get your new computer, then you set your old one back up?
