(moved from PC games discussion)

Whenever I load up a game the window always minimizes itself and I have to "force" it to actually stay open by clicking on the window in my system tray until it stays open. This also happens when I try to restore a game Window that I've minimized. With most of my games it wasn't a big issue but I just got into WoW again and I go in and out of the game a lot while I'm playing because I use thottbot to look up quest info. I think Folding@home may have something to do with it but I'd like to hear what you PC experts have to say before I do anything. This has been happening to me for awhile (though I know that it did work right at some point) and it's obvious that it has something to do with my display because it also prevents my screensaver from loading (it will appear for a split second before going back to the desktop and it will just keep looping). If this isn't the place to post this please tell me where to post it so I can get help with this. I'm fairly good with computers but I can't figure out what would cause a weird problem like this.

Edit: Well I just ran dxdiag and everything went fine until the Direct3D test, everytime I ran it the screen would revert back to the desktop like it does with my games and a message would come up saying the test was cancelled because I pressed a key even though I didn't.

Double Edit: I just downloaded the latest version of my video driver and that didn't fix it.

EDIT: try this one http://www.pandasoftware.com/ go to free downloads and choose panda antivirus download it, update it and analyze your system

Yeah...I can't put my finger on anything that would "definitely" be causing this issue. I know when a system is under a great load, like when you are playing games, alot of memory is being used. When you try to "use" windows while having a game running in the background, more memory is likely to be used. Now, depending on the amount of memory you have, the system may be trying to conserve memory space by minimizing the windows. Or maybe you have a memory issue that only occurs when a particular segment of the memory is being used, that usually isn't used until there is a full load.

I'd consider trying to run memtest (its a bootable test) to check your memory for errors. If it comes up bad, RMA it to the manufacturer. If you have too little memory, the system will also be tapping into virtual memory on the hard drive...which you really don't want cuz that will slow things down quite a bit and put even more stress on the system.

Like I said, I don't know for sure...it could be a number of things, and I could be totally off with the issue hat you are having.

But either way, hope this helps at the least.

Like you said, it's most likely folding at home. I've been having the same problem and have heard other peoples in the F@H sticky also mentioning this, it steels focus from other applications somehow. Just close F@H when you want to game or run the console version (If you aren't already). I heard that's supposed to work, haven't tried it myself yet, I've been a little discouraged to fold after seeing all those PS3's fly by me.. :)
