Hey guys,

I have started to notice some weird problems when playing games and I don't know how to fix them. I have noticed, every time I play a game with AA & AF on for 5 to 10 minutes the game graphics start to go weird and long lines appear and flicker at the same time. These lines are black or have the same texture as a wall or a gun in the game. The game works fine for the first 5 minutes but then the problem starts. I have also noticed that this doesn't seem to happen when I switch off AA & AF and no matter how long I play this problem doesn't happen. This problem seems to appear, no matter which game I play. Weird right?

My GPU temps are fine, Idle 40c and load 50-70c and I regulary clean dust out of my PC to keep it running cool, so the problem isn't temps. My PSU is also good enough so I don't think this is also a problem. I uninstalled drivers several times and used different ones but the problem still seem to be happening. My only guess is that my old X1950pro is starting to die, but I am not sure, since this problem seem to be happening only when I use AA & AF.

Any advice on what the problem could be?

Thx :D

Im no expert, but I would say your GPU is starting to die. Computers can display some odd artifacts/repeated images when the graphics card is dying. Someone may be able to give a proper idea of what the problem is though

158 degrees Farenheit sounds pretty hot to me...

(70*9/5)+32=158 That's the max heat you said.

(40*9/5)+32=104 That's the normal heat you said.

I'm certainly no expert, but I think those heats MIGHT be effecting the performance. :/

70 on a GPU is certainly acceptable, they can handle up to 100 or so.

Can you get GPU-Z to monitor your GPU's memory temp? Most programs only monitor core temp. This sounds very much like a problem concerning GPU memory. It's either overheating, or it's permanently damaged. Is your warranty still intact? I had this exact same problem with my 5870 a few months ago. It was deduced to be a GPU memory problem, and it was "solved" after a RMA.

Sounds like It could be a driver Issue, have you updated recently? If not try that first.

You might read this also, but you might already know that AMD stopped supporting legacy cards. It's time to upgrade I think.

I downloaded GPU-Z but the only two temperatures I can monitor is the core temp and the PCB temp. There is no VRAM temperature reading. Also I find it odd that my memory could be a problem, since I have no problems playing games on high as long as I don't use any AA or AF. Why would turning on AA & AF suddenly effect my VRAM? I can still run the game fine, no fps drops, just weird lines that are flickering.
