So I finished building my PC two days ago(specs on sig), everything was fine when I installed Vista and it ran very fast(coming from someone that had a P4). Now I just got home and found out that my boyfriend installed some toolbar to watch videos in a website and I became suspicious so I unistalled the toolbar called "Zango" or something like that, and I proceded with a scan with Avira, Spybot S&D, COMODO, Malwarebytes and Spyware terminator. Turns out ST found a trojan in the "Setup.exe" used to install the toolbar and I tried removing it with ST and it popped a window saying that I had to remove the toolbar first from Add/Remove programs, when I already had removed it, then try to remove the Setup.exe and the program froze, I tried again the scan again and I got the same results when I tried removing it so I restarted. Once my PC booted up again it showed a message that said "Spyware terminator: Removing 1 file, error unable to remove file" and then everything went fine as it was, and now everytime I try to restart the same message pops up again and it getting annoying, not to mention that my PC could still be infected and there has been an overall performance drop, like programs take a awhile to load, etc.

Help?

I suggest storing your important data and then reformat the PC entirely. Trust me, it'll take less time and effort than trying to undo the damage.

I would get AVG free: http://free.avg.com/, install it. Then, reboot into Safe-Mode F8 and run the program.

Is that trustworthy? I don't want to have another virus from trying to remove another virus... lol. Or delete something I shouldn't have...

You can't be series:P I already have too many important things in here and at the moment I don't have where to backup that information.

If you scroll down a little, it's just a guide how to remove the toolbar. You're only going to be removing files, not adding any, so it's safe. They do advise you to be careful messing with any files. I'm not sure about the downloadable auto-remove program. You might want to do some research on that site to see if they're trustworthy.

I'd also recommend using Firefox instead of IE.

I do use Firefox and I checked that site but that's to remove the toolbar and I already removed the toolbar but apparently it left some spyware/virus that I can't get rid of.

Just do a search on google about removing it. There's more to it than just uninstalling the program.

http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-Anniversary-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?tag=mncol

both are free btw, and i use them and havent had problems with viruses since, also make sure to inform your bf not to install zango anymore or go to websites that ask you to install it

Boot up in safe mode and try a scan if a no go, you could get an ubuntu live cd and then run a scan from there, dl and run avg.
