I can't take it anymore. Where are the games like Diablo 2? Countless #'s of publishers have come out, copied the formula (some shamelessly) and failed at making a game that even compares to it. There's a reason you can still buy this game brand new at mass market chains people, it continues to sell a staggering amount of copies every year. (And dumb idiots continue to get banned and still go out and buy a new copy... so they can keep cheating... and getting banned.)

I could go on and on and praise this game for its features, but I'll spare it because quite frankly if you haven't boughten this game then you probably aren't even going to look at this post. You should be aware however, that Diablo 2 is one of the most, if not THE most important action RPG that has appeared in the past decades.

Sure RPG's have branched out and chained over time, but nothing has compared to the bloodthirsty feeling of achievement and slaughter when you just waste countless thousands of hellspawn with a few friends in tow.

If you're happy with WoW, Guild Wars, etc., more power to you, I'm certainly not here to hate on you. These games offer plenty.

I would consider myself an arcade type gamer, which might explain my dissatisfaction from computer games. Don't get me wrong, I get pumped when playing FEAR or other action oriented games, but I've never been a huge fan of RTS, RPGs, or FPS's in general. Then I played Diablo 2.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if they merely gave Diablo 2 an (Honest) current patch that fixed some glaring bugs, balanced the skills and characters a little, and even a small face-lift, I would continue to play the game with the utmost conviction. As it stands, I have been an on and off gamer of it for a few years now. The best feature being the fact that it doesn't require absolute commitment to play, yet it never has to ask for it. You can play for a few minutes or 10 hours. It's like a best friend that you can go to whenever you feel like. Or alcohol.:P

Please do NOT cite me games such as Hellgate London, (Butchered by EA and Bandai/Namco) or other current RPG titles. I realize that they do offer deeper strategies, newer interfaces, better graphics, but... there's just something about Diablo that I can't shake. Do I understand that the game is close to a decade old? Yes. Are there certain bugs that annoy and ruin aspects of the game? Yes. Does it compare to modern RPG's in terms of replayability and fun? You bet.

its exactly the same , aside from missing PVP thing where you could make a room and then some noob joins and kills you then takes all your gear and leaves.... oh and to add he was cheating.... it has arena type and duel type PVP , you should try Hellgate if you really like the Diablo series.

just a warning the makers of Diablo are full of them selfs cause there game was a freak awsome hit ... so when they made Hellgate they didn't really check the games code well and yeah because of it the games REALLY BUGGY at the moment , not to mention they released a patch but it was just to add content not to fix the major bugs in the game....

I'm aware that HG:L was made by the heads of D2. Which is why I'm just that much more disappointed with it. As for the witcher, not really the same thing... but I hear good things about it.

Well how far did you get into Hellgate: London? The more you play the game and the class you find to fit your style the better the game gets. Much better.

Might want to push on with HGL. I too was a diablo addict for years, HGL is the closest thing to it, but obviously doesn't have the magic. It does get much better later on. Like diablo it really sucks in the early levels without being twinked out and rushed.

God, Diablo II/LOD owned... Blizzard could have just released one expansion a year and I would still be playing DII, especially if the game wasn't so heavily hacked and filled with exploits.

Personally, I got bored with it after a few weeks.
I mean, you basically only used two or three attacks against every enemy in the game, playing it through three times, and then there's not much point playing again (unless you want to try a character with a different attack).

I never really understood why it was Diablo 2 was so popular, but then again, I've always been more of a fan of plot-driven games.

...Come to think of it, the only Blizzard series that I've truly enjoyed was The Lost Vikings.

Diablo has some the deepest character custimization I have personally ever seen. Mainly because at the time Blizzard didn't think it was needed to put class restrictions on armor/weapons. They also didn't seem to have much forsight on creating some insane armor/weapon combinations and stats. Diablo players know what I'm talking about. DR/Shield sorcs or singer barbs?

A large portion of character custimization lied in itemization rather then skill points. Having 5-6 viable builds per class is quite huge. Look at WoW. Each class basically has a pvp and a pvm build and thats it. A couple classes in WoW have hybrid pvp/pvm builds, but eh.

Try Titan Quest. It's basically the same as Diablo, with better graphics and a different story.

I have to agree with this, specially with the last line.

If blizz would release a higher resolution patch for LOD I'd play it again.

ATM It can only be done with a hack so you cant play online with it:(

I agree with you 100%. It's truly an amazing game, one of my favorites of all time. I can't see Diablo with super graphics. The graphics should stay just the way they are

I've been playing a lot of Titan Quest (and Immortal Throne) and having a great time with it.I haven't played Diablo (1or 2) yet but from all I keep hearing I think I'll finally take a look-or perhaps pickup HG:L still trying to decide.

Agreed. I thought Diablo 1 was far superior in terms of enviromental atmosphere and orginality. I still remember the Butcher's room and how excited I was to get his cleaver!

I want to play Diablo 1 now...

Well, it's funny really. I'd say I'm a hardcore RPG player, and I couldn't really care less about action RPG's, I think most of them are just horribly lame, Dungeon Siege, Titan Quest, all of them, they seriously make me fight against boredom while playing.
However, I love Diablo, always have, always will. I think it's just some strange "X" factor that Blizzard USED to have.

There's no doubt that Diablo is the one true king of Action RPG land, and sadly, it seems to me like there isn't going to be anything to replace it anytime soon.
