It depends on the game and other specs of your system. Sometimes it'll perform like a 7800, sometimes like a 7600.

Which is excellent, because if I remember correctly, it draws about the same amount of power as a 7600GT.

Actually 8600GT consumes only 43 watts (Thus the insane OC'ability) while the 7600GT consumes 65W.

7600GT runs about the same as the 8600GT on older games (HL2, CoD2, etc). 8600GT is better for games with heavier shader requirements (Supreme Commander, CoH).

As for overclocking. The 7600GT has a known volt-mod that allows it to get up to 620/850. I'm not sure if the same is for the 8600GT.

Makes no sense, because the 7600GT is better than the 7800GS.

The 8600GT performs something like a 7800GT, a bit better or worse depending on the game.

Nope, they consume about the same amount of power. Around 40Ws.

Yes a Volt Modded 8600GTS (with the power dongle) and better cooling can hit 1GHz Stable. while the 8600GT (without the power dongle) can hit somthing like 750-850MHz with better cooling probbly like 900MHz

Just for arguments sake that's close to what the OC'dXFX 8600 GTXXXis out of the box. I still haven't tried to OC it more though to see how high it would go but some reviews I've read are favorable.

I've heard that the 8600GTS is on or around the level of an 7800GS. So I would assume a 8600GT would be comparable to a card below an 7800GS.

My GPU experience...

I have a 512mb 6800 GPU on my old PC (Win XP Pro on a sempron 2600+) and a 256mb 8600GT GPU (Win Vista on a E6320) on my new rig.

I can only run Quake 4 on a resolution of 640 x 480 on both GPU's/rigs.

An 8600GTS performs better than a 8600GT, I've got the 8600GTS and can play allot of games @ 1360X768 on High settins and most of the time maxed. Games like FEAR:EP, Company of Heroes, Bioshock all maxed out. "zenzen" has a very crappy computer which is why he can't run the game past what he described.

Then you have a severe bottleneck somewhere else in your PC, as most people are comfortably maxing the game out at 1600x1200 on the GeForce 8600gt. It's an old game, it's not at all hard for modern hardware to beat the snot out of it.

I ran Bioshock on an X1600XT just to see the results and it ran fairly well, but I did notice the game doesn't feel as fluid as it does with an 8600GTS..goodluck with your new PC.
