What kind of games do you like? My current favorite games are:
Far Cry for Single Player FPS UT2004 for fast paced multiplayer (Warsow is even better and FREE, but not alot of people play it online) FPS Hitman Blood Money for Stealth/Action Company of Heroes for Real-time Strategy
Any one of those games will keep you busy for a long time.
FPS: Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R., FarCry RTS: Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and the up coming C&C 3 RPG: The ElderScroll 4, Neverwinter Night 2 Adventure: Dreamfall: The Longest Journey Or just read this.
If you have to buy one game before you die, make it either mafia or deus ex both are old, but not even the elder scrolls IV has that kind of one player expereience
