What are some good RPG recommendations games?

I really like the old nintendo games like Illusion of Gaia ,Zelda , soul blazer and secret of mana so on.. Anyone know of any games like this for the computer ? Is it even possible or do I need a game consoles?

What about Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim ? I know Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is 3D and realistic graphics where those old games from 90's are 2D and crude graphics but both are open world and fighting thus theme is same or not????

Most of those games had a lot of fighting and fighting evil spirits ,creatures ,monsters , demons ,demonic creatures and snakes other creatures so on. Not sure if Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is base on that or have that.

I'll be entirely honest, if you're a big fan of Zelda, get the tiny Wii for US$99,99 and get Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and all the older ones on the virtual console. If it can be any RPG in general, I'd suggest you try Dark Souls, The Witcher 2 and Kingdoms of Amalur - they aren't similar to the games you mentioned, but they're great games in their own merit.

darksiders and its sequel are no brainers, since you like zelda and illusion of gaia. you might also like the Ys games, since they're fast paced action RPGs (like secret of mana).

you may or may not enjoy the witcher games. the narrative is the strongest point in those games (some of the best gaming has to offer), but the gameplay itself falls short.

you also may or may not enjoy dark souls. it's an amazing RPG, and the world is structured similar to metroid games. if you've never played a metroid game, think of zelda, but you spend the entire game inside one huge dungeon. the game is really punishing at first though, it takes a while to get used to how the game plays.

Well I was looking at some of the screenshots of Bioware's Neverwinter Night ,dark souls , Divine Divinity look more closer to those games I like . Not sure if Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim yet . The action ,combat and fighting and bosses in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is what looks strange not on the level like those games but than again I only seen some youtube clips of it.

Note I was reading that dark souls is very hard game to play even for people really good at playing games.

you won't find those things you mentioned in skyrim. for that matter, if combat is important to you, stay away from skyrim. it's terrible, even the fans of the game know that. also skyrim doesn't really have "bosses". the closest to that are the dragons, and even then, they're not very boss-like.

on the other hand, dark souls sounds like the kind of game you'd like. it has amazing creature design, memorable bosses, and one of the best combat systems in any action RPG.

As far as Diablo/Torchlight type games, even though they are called ARPGs, they have point and click gameplay which prob isn't what you're looking for. I'd actually recommend other ARPGs l(I like to call them loot whoring games) like Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance/Champions of Norrath as theyre more actiony and involve more player skill. (analog movement, manual blocking...) The only thing is they're on consoles, so you have to try and use emulation if you don't have the consoles to play them on. Maybe look into Dungeon Seige 3 ?

NWN games aren't what you're looking for, as it's not an action style RPG & has point & click gameplay too. Divine Divinity I never played, but heard it had Diablo type gameplay, but more like Ultima, say. Not just the constant loot whoring/hacking & slashing. More dialog, story elements and exploration, I guess. But again, if the gameplay is point & click like Diablo, it's prob not what you're looking for either, as it sounds like you want a more interactive action style RPG. That's why I recommended Dark Souls, Gothic games (avoid 4 & patch 3) , System Shock 2 and Deus Ex.

People are graphics whores and it's relatively new

They love open world games where they can just wander around aimlessly

It's very casualised compared to alot of RPGs (especially older ones) Which means it appeals to more ppl than just the hardcore RPG players

As far as your other question, the monster variety is very weak in Skyrim. Especially for a big fantasy RPG.

We already touched on the combat being lame

The 'story' elements (writing,characters,dialogs,choices and consequences) are not good at all (although the lore you can read in books isn't bad)

Skyrim is just a TERRIBLY overrated game for all the hype it gets.

How about the Darksiders games. They have some exploring, they have the fighting, they have the progression, some platforming. Maybe they could fit your taste.

Like the poster above said, get Darksiders. Nox has pretty good combat, but that might not be the kind of game you are looking for, as it is heavily mouse driven. Speaking of Skyrim, I made a post in another thread explaining how I felt about it.

Skyrim is quite a good game... assuming you

• Don't dabble in Alchemy, Enchanting and especially smithing.
• Ignore the horrid combat
• Ignore the lifeless, repetitive scenery
• Ignore the quests which are worse than those in your average mmo
• Ignore the awful writing
• Ignore the obvious level scaling
• Ignore the worst implementation of a perk system EVER!
• Ignore the overly underwhelming dragons
• Ignore the lack of depth
• Ignore the lack of challenge
• Ignore the lack of variety
• Ignore the terrible magic system
• Ignore the idiotic level up system where you can gain 3 levels or so not even pressing any of the WASD keys once.
• Ignore the bugs
• Ignore the awful textures
• Ignore the voice acting
• Ignore the random/unneeded comments guards spew out 24/7

Even the open world elements are really poor. The world is terribly repetitive (mountains, forests, mountains, forests... and a swamp) and lifeless. And exploration is pointless thanks to the godawful implementation of smithing and level scaling.

There is no particulary good reason to explore and the world is only slightly less static as the one in WoW.

If you haven't yet, go to your local comic store and ask them when their next Dungeons and Dragons campaign will be. If you want to play a "real" RPG game, nothing can beat good ol' Pencil and Paper role playing games.SKaREO

Well because if Scrolls V: Skyrim had that and lots more finding and going through sorta like mazes like areas and dungeons it would be like those games but only thing change is the graphics .


Those games where base heavy on fantasy and medieval like weapons and body armor that Scrolls V: Skyrim has the amount of fighting , exploration and encounters of mutants , folklore creatures, evil spirits ,creatures ,monsters , demons ,demonic creatures so on Scrolls V: Skyrim does not have this for some reason .

Now if Scrolls V: Skyrim have all that than all has change is the graphics.

Well that is the thing those games where not base on just random animals and people fighting it was base heavy on mutants , folklore creatures, monsters , demons so on.

The problem with a lot of games today is first person shooter and multiplayer games like wow ( World of Warcraft's ) is the fad now. Where fantasy RPG is not big like it was before.

From what I read skyrim is more medieval RPG than the classic medieval fantasy RPG .This may explain the lack of fighting and mutants , folklore creatures, monsters , demons so on.

After 4 years in the suburbs with jack-sh*t to do, I was getting burnt out on gaming. Once I shelved my backlog and just focused on:

a.) Witcher 2 -- 2nd playthru.

b.) Fallout 3 -- re-modded for a new playthrough.

c.) And the numerous class stories of free-to-play Star Wars The Old Republic.

...I started having fun again.

Oh, and look! They are all RPGs just like you asked! (For my PVP fix: I'm playing Gotham City Impostors.)

Since you're looking for a good fantasy RPG with decent action gameplay, I would focus on...

Dark Souls (don't play with a keyboard & mouse)

Gothic 2

Witcher 2 to a lesser degree (a little too much rolling combat wise, has some decent 'story' elements though)
