What are the best PC games for a begining PC gamer?

What are the best games for a beginner PC gamer? (I'm such a noob :P) Ive got a windows 7 that's not meant for gaming. Ive missed out on a lot of good games that weren't for any Nintendo console but only for either PS2, Xbox, and PC or for only Xbox and PC. So what are some good games to get started in mah PC gaming? I'm already getting KOTOR 2 and definitely if I can find it KOTOR 1.

KOTOR 1 is $10 on Steam. Its 10X better than KOTOR 2. I'm sure it will go on sale for probably $5 during the holiday sale coming up in the next 2 months if you want to wait for that.

And Crysis isn't too hard to get into and it's got a little more depth to the game mechanics if your computer can run it. Although, watching some Youtube vids of playthroughs is awesome, as those guys really know how to use the powers to their maximum effect.

I wouldn't recommend STALKER for a first game, it's pretty hard to get into. I'm still having trouble figuring it out (but I'm stil sorta a beginner too, maybe you'll fare better).

Roller Coaster Tycoon & Age of Mythology helped me get started but i guess they are a bit dated now

the orange box, the witcher, gta 4. imo, the best the pc has to offer.

Don't, just get the Orange Box and you'll be fine for now with Valve's games.

The Orange Box is the first thing I always recommend to new PC gamers.

Start with some of the undisputed classics. Play Deus Ex, Diablo II and Starcraft.

If you're not familliar with PC games why don't start with small casual games like farm frenzy or something? Diablo II is good too, if you don't mind old graphics.
