i just upgraded my computer with a geforce 8600 gt and 2 gb RAM. so im wondering what setting i could play GoW at? ill be using a low res screen so maybe that will let me put other settings higher?
does AA even make any real difference? i was playing world in conflict at mostly high settings at around 10 some odd fps with 4x AA but when i took it off it jumped to maybe 20 or so and runs perfectly and it dosent look any different? oh and the res of my screen is 1024x768 or something like that
at lower res' the jagged edges of surfaces look pretty horrible cant stand it so you put AA to smoothen it out but it does take a large performance hit on the GPU.. you dont notice it much in RTS games but in FPS there pretty obvious the other way not use AA is to up the res' but that also takes a large performance hit so you have to kind of compromise.
yeah its all upto you, some people even have AA on at 1920x1080 i usually stop at 1280x1024... if it doesn't bother you at all then by all means take AA off.

You CANNOT do AA in gears in XP.Or well atleast the last time i checked anyways.yeah your right but i think ive used rivertuner to force AA, but im not sure about that though... I dont think there is a way to manually force AA in DX9 but i could be wrong tho.Gears worked fine for me in vista so never bothered to install in XP.

Possible to a certain degree only. You can force AA through the Nvidia settings manager/Catalyst but no higher than 4x. As it seems, anything above 4x doesn't make a difference.
A slight mod in the config file may be needed too.
