There's really no wrong choice with any of those. They are all great. I've played them all over and over again except Freespace 2 which I haven't played.
System Shock 2 and Fallout are great games of course but if you don't have much time, consider Thief 2 as well. It's one of my most favourite games.
In my opinion Fallout was a masterpiece!
On a sidenote in u r out of money find excellent free old games at www.abandonia.com
I would highly recommend downloading : 5 days a stranger, Trilby's notes, 7days a sceptic (play them in that order)
no fancy graphic but the best gameplay and atmosphere!
I'm tempted to say System Shock 2, but everyone else said that, so I'll go with Thief 2 (but only after you've played the first one).
And while you're at it, download Thief 2X: Shadows of the Metal Age - the massive, brilliant unofficial fan expansion pack.Planeforger
I agree, Thief 2 is great, but you have to play the first one to get the storyline.
I hadn't heard of that exansion, I'll have to download it and give it a try.
I have several old games that i have not goten around to playing including Fallout, Deus ex,System Shock 2, Thief 2 and freespace 2. I was just wondering what game i should complete first and why.pizapockit

Difficult choice. I would probably pick Deus Ex first. Always liked that game. I would say Fallout next then System Shock 2. Though to be honest I don't think you can go wrong with any of the games you mentioned so enjoy.
If you're more of an RPG player then id suggest Fallout out of that lot first, its one of the best RPG's made (if not the best), great setting, interesting story, superior combat (turn based) and theres choice and consequence.
If you're more of a FPS fan id suggest System Shock 2, its not as deep as Deus Ex (FP RPG hybrid aswell but it has more options and RPG elements) but its one hell of a game.
I agree, Thief 2 is great, but you have to play the first one to get the storyline.

What does the story in the 1st game have to do with the story in the 2nd? I never finished Thief 2. I only got up to the part where you follow that guy's blood trail. Are the stories connected later on in the game?
