What could change a ping ? (connection related question).

Hi, so since as far as i can remember, when i checked my ping with speedtest.net, it's always been 15ms. But since about a little more then a month, it pased from 15 to 25. I tried calling my internet provider (bell) but they told me there was nothing they could do it wasn't something they have anything to do with, which I don't buy for 2 cents, if you ask me they have no idea what is going on and they just flushed me. So I ask you guys with more brains then those SOBs, what could affect a ping, and what can be done if anything from my part to get it back to 15 ?

The question is too broad as many things can 'change' a ping. You mentioned Bell so I am to assume that you have DSL?

Ok, but the thing is, i don't think anything has changed on my machine, I didn't install any programs or anything :sjack00

Do another test and see the if the distance to the tests erver has changed. Let me know what that distance is.

Small variations in ping like this are 100% normal and there's nothing you can do about it (unless you have some malware or recently changed networking drivers).

Bell could've changed their infastructure, there could be more traffic than when you last measured, speedtest.net could've made changes to their servers. Outside of driver changes, network hardware changes, and malware it's going to be impossible for you to pinpoint the cause for the increase. Calling Bell and complaining probably won't work because ping variations are completely normal.

That's a short ditstance so it's not a server test change. Your fiber line hasn't changed. Its most likely something related to your property or PC. That's as vague as I can be. Good luck. :)

I wouldn't think a 10ms variance as something to be too concerned with. Could be anything from time of the day to server location.

Alright, still it really bugs me. Ive' always been at at 15 as far as I know. And now all my servers in my fav list in BF3 are at 50-55 instead of 40 :(jack00

10 ms will make no difference. Ping can changes randomly depends on the ISP
