Core i7 performs the best; however, if you were on a budget the core 2 duos are what you are looking for.

Is this thread bias? because the acronym CPU is general and you left out AMD...

Core i7's anyway...

Get an i7 if you can afford it. Otherwise get an e8500 and overclock it, especially if gaming is your primary use.

I like the i7 a lot but the performance that was promised in gaming is nowhere to be seen. I think right now if you have a core 2 quad/extreme you are set for gaming for the next couple of years. You still get much more performance increase from a video card than the cpu (unless it's bottlenecking) anyway.

I7 isn't worth the price. I'd personally go with an AMD Phenom II X4, but the price/performance ratio is the most important factor to me (and even then, I'd wait until fall before purchasing).

i would definitely say quad or dual core, depending on your price range. I myself will not bother with the i7 for a good while because Nvidia released a statement stating that the i7 really didn't perform much better than a quad or dual core. They said that the hyper-threading was rarely used andits performance was the same. I do agree thatAMD should be represented, butat the moment, i think they are losing the cpu war.

So your poll asks a stupid question and your answers consist of brands and architecture of CPU? Wow...

Core i7 IS a quad core CPU and it's Intel specific

Quad core CPU could mean AMD OR Intel

Dual core CPU could mean AMD OR Intel

Pentium D IS a dual core CPU and it's Intel specific

Ridiculous thread imo.

Yep Cause Pentium D most Expesnive one is still weaker then Athelon 3600+ 64 bits :D which was sold for 1/3 of the price against Best Pentium Intel D 3 year ago

And why did you leave out the Phenoms? For their price, they're the best ones out there. But if you just have nothing better to do than spending a lot of money, then go with the i7.

Core i7 Is Good and a possiblity that current motherboard may support 32nm in 2010 Q1 but those are rumour and there not even one motherboard who claim it will Core i7 is The Best to go within usa for Best Perforamcnes depend fo how much you want to spend on a setup

you could say a Budget at last If example you'r wanting a PC build at 1200-1500$ : the Resolution u wish to gaming : you will game lot or not !? if lot you should spend the right amount to enjoy it right ;)

if at 1920x1200 a Video card 4870x2 / 285GTx / 4890 1GB + 3x2GB 1600mhz at 90-133$ + Core i7 920 + A Good X58 Motherboard and you'r good to run

The PSU / Case Variate on how much you wil spend on gpu : if you go low : or high gpu usage like Crossfire in future or SLI

Tough if you want something top-notch to allow overclock and Incredible Lifespawn within a Combo there is HAF 932 & 900W PSU Combo at 280$ but expensive The case it self is 139,99$ but a airflow monster nothing less

unless there someting as such as get a 600W + A HAF 932 you may save 30-50$ from the combo that is already awesome savings on great quality part

if you go Core i7 : 1920x1200 Enthusiast way it mostly not under 1200$US id like to hear other Suggestion tough i'm willing to help you to get a Good pc

As already stated by many, core i7 is the best but it's also quite expensive. It's still unclear whether getting it now will be worth it in the long run, but you'll undoubtedly have a great computer if you decide to go with it.
